Reclamation-Ghosts-Memorial slabs
« on: March 21, 2012, 06:38:56 am »

So im having some difficulty putting my ghosts to rest.

I buried a majority of them, pleasing them enough to go away, but some of my corpses appear to be unreachable. Probably cause they were cooked real good in some magma.

The memorial slab menu is somewhat confusing.

My dwarves are happily making slabs; But the issue is locating the names of specific dwarves which i want to engrave.

There are a lot of names i dont recognise, and none of the ghosts names are in there.

is there something im missing?

because going down the list; engraving a slab for everyone doesnt seem to work, the list doesnt seem to shrink.

Names aren't taken off the list when you engrave a slab, so that you can make multiple slabs for the same dwarf if you want. (i have slabs for my old queen everywhere!).

It would be nice if the slabe menu had some kind of order to it. I think it lists every named individual that's died at your fort, including goblins, forgotten beasts, pets, caravan guards... It could do with breaking down a bit like the units screen.

Socks inspire the same sort of emotions in dwarfs that Helen of Troy inspired in the Achaean Greeks. Although it is said that Helen's face launched a thousand ships, socks have surely launched a million ultimately-fatal Store Owned Item tasks.

Okay, so would it be unexpected that some names do not appear at all?

there is also a single 'blank' option near the end, which does not contain a name and simply says

"&*(engrave memorial)"

&* - where the name would be

On Manitis it is a known bug, or perhaps bugs, depending on how one counts it.

If you canīt find the ghost names in the memorial list (though itīs easy to overlook one name once the list grows to hundreds of entries) they may be vampire ghosts in which case I think their real name must be engraved but the ghost shows up with a fake identity. Or maybe they are on the "missing" list, so their deaths are not confirmed for whatever reason.

Could you please upload your savegame and let me take a look at it? I could use some vampire ghosts to test a plugin I wrote.

Sure, i can do that, but im not so sure that it has anything to do with vampires.

I suspect thier bodies may have never been found deep in the multiple Z levels of 7/7 magma, But it has been a long time since they died.

No atomsmashing, sorry. And I have a murderous ghost, formerly a legendary miner that got trapped by magma, and is now -dead- set on killing off all the other legendaries. First kill, legendary mason. Second, legendary cook. Third, legendary glassmaker. Now he's following my legendary stonecrafter. Feel bad for him.

No Name for slabbing, no body for burying.

Have fun :D

Yea, my ghosts just seem to randomly lash out and remove someones teeth or arm, surprisingly this hasnt really bothered them. This reclamation was due to a tantrum spiral, so im expecting this to happen again.

oh the !fun!

I searched 'cave spider' on google, after paging through a couple minecraft pages, I find This. It seems rather dwarfy, actually. And I now know where 'troglodyte' came from.

If you have vampires that you know are vampires nick name them "Vampire" it's a life saver for slab designation because then you don't need to figure out their real name.

Good tip, I actually nick all my dwarves for simple tracking reasons.

That too, I nickname anyone who I wish to burrow and vampires are prime candidates for certain burrows.

Whoops. Just realized wrong thread. I have no idea how that happened... I've seen it happen a few times before, where I'm darn sure i'm on the right thread yet it posts to another one.
