UnTamed Wilds - The violent visitors
« on: March 21, 2012, 04:39:12 am »

I'm playing a map within UnTamed Wilds... will I need to worry about traveling necromancers?  I would hate for those dozen corpses inside my walls to suddenly march downstairs.

Any other violent visitors I should know about??

unless there is a necromancers tower nearby, no need to worry.

you'll see a lot of animal men passing by, probably, and some giant variations (Giant Badgers, cute, furry, snarling dwarf killing machines). Otherwise not too different from a wilderness.

Mostly the Untamed Wilds are just bigger animals and animal people.  The animal people outside my current fort have been leaving me alone, so they don't seem like a big threat.  Might be different in some biomes, like the Giant Desert Scorpions.  Also, if there's vegetation, you'll probably get whip vines which don't occur in non-savage areas.

That is an insane and dangerous plan.  I approve wholeheartedly.

Not sure if these are Savage or not.  Storks?  Haven't seen an Eagle or Elephant here, so I'm prolly not in a Savage neutral.

This wiki is a lil out of date on surroundings, its pre-critter 2012 changes.  But it should give you some ideas of what to expect.  http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Surroundings

Pretty sure, if it doesn't say neighbor, Tower, you won't see necros.  I've got my first big fortress now, finally tweaked all the settings to allow for a safer, longer timeline, 186 pop.  Year six and I haven't seen one undead.  In a Neutral freshwater swamp-desert split biome.  Not sure of its Savagery, however, just lost two soldiers and a baby, to a Minotaur.

I did have 6 Giant Thirps, bloodsucking ticks come visit me, but they didn't stay long.  What's been giving me fits has been the Forgotten Beasts.  I have one in cavern two, litterally killing everything in all directions singlehandedly.  It took out the fauna too, its a raging inferno down there, because the Forgotten Beast is a humanoid made of flame.  Glad I'm rolling this time in ASCII, that smoke would kill my FPS.  Sincerely, Knutor

elephants show up in the right tropical biomes, savagery doesn't matter for that.

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

Thanks for the all the different advice.   So far the worst has been where the game started with five angry giant bats.  They harrassed and killed some dwarves before I had the equipment to stop them.

Follow-up Question...  will I have any wandering minotaurs, cyclops, hydras, etc., etc., ??  Or would those only be found in the savagery map sections?

Hello!

megabeasts, semi megabeasts and titans wander in randomly wherever you are.

I have not been doing much playing since the FB first entered the stage, so I am not sure about the current status: Does the INVADER setting in the init also control titans and the like?

Yours,
