So after a hiatus on the forums, I return to this
Yeah, ok. Sorry 'bout the double threading and all, my bad. The new title should be more to thine liking. Anyway, I'm still having this problem. Let me put out some things.
This post is about an issue where grates are deconstructed, fast enough for me to suddenly notice that every grate is either in the garbage pile or sitting next to its hole without my ever actually SEEING a dwarf take it apart. Here is some more info based on other player's suggestions.
1: As far as freezing water goes, I have some on the MAP, but none near the grates in question.
2: I have no angry dwarves yet. It's a small fort of 33 dwarves, so it's easy to keep track of.
3: Since the original post, I have fired the bookkeeper. This completely removes any chance of mass dumping, as the grates are 15z apart, and do not fit on the same screen horizontally. I cannot D B D them without direct effort. It has happened since.
4: @Elone: Stop being funny, you are ruining my perfectly good mad.
5: It has happened 3 times, but only on the FIRST occasion were the grates also dumped, apparantly without my knowledge. I have used grates on previous forts without seeing this.
6: I have not breached the caves. I have not had an invasion OR even an ambush.
7: The fort is in a temperate, hilly woodland region with no evil/good biome, and average savagery. There are no natural Building Destroyers on the map, save for some tamed cave crocodiles (2) which are pastured behind a locked door until they decide to breed. The enterance is where one set of grates are, and they let a 15z waterfall fall through the entry bridge while letting dwarves continue through. The falls are 4 tiles wide, just like the stream. There is also a set of grates at the top of the falls, to prevent idiot wild turkeys and ducks (occasionally dwarves) from nosediving off of the falls and splattering on the entry bridge. They occassionally land on the grates below, but have never been directly observed to damage the grates. The last set of grates is sequestered inside the fort, and is used to fish through to aforementioned stream. They always are seen dissassembled at the same time, its all or none. What do?
---------Original Post-------------
Anyone have idea why my dwarves suddenly decided the EVERY SINGLE ROCK GRATE IN THE FORT needed to be dumped? I lost some important dwarves to this crap. I haven't even opened the Stock screen (wherein one might accidentally mass dump something) since i BEGAN the fort. How does this happen? Nothing can come up underneath to destroy them, right? Things can't destroy a built object from below, that's why hatches work.
