1000 Item Mood
« on: March 20, 2012, 05:58:08 pm »

Newest version.  One of my dwarfs has claimed a clothiers' workshop, demands more cloth.  According to dfhack's showmood, he wants 1000 plant fiber cloth.  Can I cancel this somehow using dfhack?  I thought this bug was fixed?

I think you mean 10,000.  1 piece of cloth is calculated as 10,000 units.

Oops haha, sorry, my bad.  I spun him some more cloth and he needs some other stuff now.  He did claim 35 pieces of cloth, though.

I'd just let it go on because it sounds interesting.  The worst case is he goes berserk and you have to put him down.

Best case scenario he goes berserk and you put him in an asylum cell, for future use.

You mean you don't sit on hundreds of units of cloth like I do?

I would be curious just how much he will take.  Use his insatiable desire for cloth to your advantage, by creating cloth from different plant/animal sources, and coloring each piece differently.  That stands a chance to maximize the number of decorations.

Sounds like the Planepacked bug where a dwarf has claimed a workshop in an area that they're not allowed to be in.

Is he assigned to a burrow?

If so, remove him from the burrow and see if he goes to work on his artifact.

He's not burrowed.  I think he only needs one gem to start construction.

It's the cloth count.  DFHack displays cloth as 10,000 per sheet.  Don't make this sound more complicated than it is.  It's cloth.

He got a gem, some leather, bones, and 3 more pieces of cloth, but he still won't start construction.  If 10,000 means 1 cloth, shouldn't he be satisfied by now?

Cloth is spammable.

Just put somebody in the farmers workshop, processing plants, and somebody on the loom weaving thread into cloth.

Also, wool cloth, plant fiber cloth, and silk cloth are distinct entity types. A requirement that is specific for a type cannot be satisfied by another type.

What does hovering over his workshop with q say he needs?

Does he say "I must have $type_cloth cloth!", "draws pictures of $type_cloth", or mumble "....$type_cloth......yes.."?

He's saying, "leather... skin...", "trees... life...", "gems... shining...", "cloth... thread...", "bones... yes..".

I've got leather, bones, cut gems, more cloth, and some wood ready waiting for him.  He won't budge.  I think he's a goner.

Mine always want absurd amounts of bones.  If you have extra cloth, butcher an animal, and see if he hauls ass to the butcher shop.

I've already butchered all my animals.  Unfortunately, since I'm on a reanimating evil biome, I usually lock up all migrant animals immediately until they turn into undead.  Maybe not the best solution.  So there weren't many to butcher.  There are still 4 bones he can use, though, and he is electing not to.

edit: Is it unusual for a dwarf to claim 30+ pieces of cloth?  Have never seen it before.
double edit: well, he went insane.  I have a previous save if a more experienced player wants to see if they can placate him.  I am interested in what the artifact would be.  http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=5956
