My slight issue with macros is that they seem imprecise.  Like if I tell it to repeat a left-right macro 100 times I usually end up going a bunch of spaces to the left.  Which is fine for sneaking but somewhat screws up swimming-with-macros.

I've noticed this as well, often to do with lag, I believe. 

Look in your init.txt for "MACRO_MS" near the bottom, and make it a higher number, and see if that helps.  Your macros will take longer, but they become more reliable with more lag, as I think the problem was just that the macro inputs the command, but the game was lagging out at the time, and didn't respond.
