...Ok, this may be weird, but does anyone do death metal vocals here? Because I became interested in trying to do death vocals a short while ago, and I can already do some, but I'm not getting the results I want (not that I'm one of those kiddies that want instant results without work). I can do the basic "foundation" of the exhaled growl (you know - use your diaphragm, lose vocal chords, if you're using your throat - you're doing it wrong), but I'm not capable of doing a lot with it - most importantly, I sound like Cannibal Corpse (or fucking Mortician) and it's not a bad thing, but how do I do smoother, more comprehensible growls? Mine sound really rough and I already can make them sound a bit higher or lower and can do some low pig squeals, but I can't figure out how to get a smoother sound like, for example, Dying Fetus. As an additional question: Carcass style vocals - how? Are both of these just dependent on your voice, or can you learn those?
Yes, I know, YOU'RE GOING TO RUIN YOUR THROAT!!!1!!!, but I've read all the safety tips. I know - don't do it if it hurts (I manage to pull these growls of really easily), water or tea before and after doing vocals, no smoking (good to lower your voice, but will ruin your stamina, which you need a lot of - I don't smoke anyway, though), clean vocal practice before harsh vocals (even humming is enough), etc., etc...
I've been doing inhales all the time and just figured out that I'm doing everything wrong, so now that I can exhale growl, I want to see if I can actually learn decent band-level (even decent garage band level is fine) vocals.
