Here's my list of albums! It's pretty damn long, so I'm spoilering it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Do you like blastbeats? I sure hope so!

One of few grind albums that is not The Mystery Behind Blastbeats, and one of greatest!
Greatest would be Symphonies of Sickness to me and World Downfall, though.
Have some grind

KG

Holy shit I can't believe I missed this, it's awesome.

While we're on the subject of Sonata Arctica, I GIVE, KINGDOM, FOR ONE MORE DAY AS A KING OF YOUR WORLD I GIIVE KIIINGDOOOM, FOR ONE MORE DAY!

Ok Gentlemen a friend of mine who would go with my group to Wacken has manged to saw off a finger and now he can't go. That means i have a ticket too many. I already contacted everyone i know who could be interested but nobody answered. Soooo, my last straw short from selling it to some stranger at the entrance: Does anybody need a Ticket to Wacken? You get it for the price we paid which should be around 135€ or something. If you want you can drive and camp with my group, although we would prefer if we didn't have to do large detours. Anyway i hope somebody is interested, just pm me or post here or whatever. Sorry if this is not allowed in this thread but i didn't know hwhere to put this. :P

I would buy it..

But, The costs to get there from Canada would be a bit to much.

Though here is some Insomnium

-That end, I have never been to Germany,, That alone would be just as epic.

No, Periphery, TesseracT and most of djent are plauge on beautiful world of metal. So is most of metalcore and deathcore.
You will understand one day why.
Pantera is okay to me but i dont like how people started to love it after Dime died, not before. Also dont like how some bands try to put "groove metal" in their music and fail and it just sucks, if you put something music, do it good, not bad.
Anyway, have some Decapitated

I really don't see why there is so much hate to djent. Is it because it's a new-ish sub-genre or is it not br00t@l enough?

It's primarly because for every good band or artist doing interesting new stuff there are a dozen people churning out generic and boring crap.

And, at least for me, it's the emphasising of one sound. Hell, djent refers to a particular sound as used by Meshuggah. As Rosetta say, that's like calling doom metal DUNNN. At least in doom your music is meant to be somewhat monotonous, and even then there are bands with far more variation in their sound than a lot of djent bands.

The deeper problem seems to be people confuse what makes the good bands good. The best bands have incredible songcraft and extremely technically able (if not actually gifted) guitar players. The djent sound is secondary to that, serving the particular music they are playing where relevant. But look at the best technical bands and it's only a tool that they bring out when needed. Hell, listen to Gorod - emphatically not a djent band but who use the sound as part of a normal spectrum of guitar techniques simply because it fits with their time signature fun. It seems an awful lot of bands have mistaken the djent sound for the point of the music, ignoring the underlying features of the music that make it actually good. You just grab an 8-string, a digital amp and play something syncopated.

I've got a few Meshuggah albums lying around along with a few other bands who use the sound heavily (AAL, Xerath, etc) and love technical metal in general. I've even found a couple of random internet djent tracks that are pretty nice. But I'm extremely selective and sceptical within the genre simply because so much of what is promoted is incredibly one note and derivative. I'm at the stage where someone referring to a band as djent is enough to put me off them.

Thanks for the well thought out response! I can really see where you coming from. I feel like a lot of djent bands sound really similar because there's not really much variety in the actual sound of djent. I do, however, like it when a band does it well and doesn't make it it's focus (Meshuggah comes to mind).

No, its not because its new or not brutal, i listen to standard heavy metal like Judas Priest, or Thrash like Megadeth, its not brutal, but i still like it. Why?
Because it IS heavy metal, point of heavy metal is to make heavy metal, when djent uses pop influences, it stops being metal. Im okay with djent when people stop calling it metal, because its not, like metalcore is not metal to me. Also, i dont fucking care if you use polymeters, polyrhythms, and 8 string guitars when you cant write interesting stuff with these things. If you cant, dont do it. Yes im looking at you, Periphery and TesseracT. Plus, i dont get anything more than 7 string guitar tuned to G at its lowest. If you want play in low E, get a bass. Do bass players tune their basses to guitar high E? No. 8 string guitars and more is bullshit to me unless it has higher strings, you know, 7 string with high A. I dont get 10 string guitars. I dont get it. You dont even use more than 2-3 lowest strings, so why the fuck do you need 10 strings? I get pissed off when people are like "OMGZORS HOW CANT YOU LISTEN TO AFTER THE BURIAL? YOU ARE MISSING WHOLE OCTAVE OF BOWEL LIQUEFYING LOW NOTES BRO!". I dont care.if it sounds like generic shit with whiny clean vocals over it. I dont need 10 string to sound brutal, i have 6 string, and use only 3 strings for all riffs i write, and they sound brutal and cool, tons of bands use 6 strings and sound brutal and cool.

So, short version if you dont want to read. I dont like when people use 8 strings guitars, polymeters, polyrhythms and technical composition overall for just sake of using them. I dont like when people sing with clean whiny vocals about serious subjects under heavy riffing. And djent is not metal.

How come this is the first time I've heard of this "Djent" (which I'm still not all to sure how to pronounce).

URAAAAAA!

I've been really addicted to this band lately.

Celtic Frost. I really want that album cover on a shirt.
