I could never decide whether Van Canto were awesome or terrible.  I'm so torn.

Both, of course. They're so conceptually terrible they transcend into the realm of melodic a Capella awesomeness.

I hope nobody minds if I doublepost, but I think this is worth it:

This Barren Skin
From These Wounds
The Architecture of Loss
Red Moon
Vagrant God
Pendulum
Saturn

I think this is the beginning of another Doom binge for me.

Dream Theater's pretty popular.  I've never been much of a fan of "Look how crazy i am at guitar" bands, though.

One of the big problems with DT is they seem to have been in decline from whenever you first started listening to them. I got onboard around Train of Thought (2003) and didn't think that album was up to Images and Words standards. Their newer stuff is OK, but other people do it better now, and it frankly doesn't match those early records.

Learning to Live is one of the most quintessential prog-metal songs in existence.

These days I'm far more likely to listen to Ayreon for prog-metal. Arjen has put out five albums I'd say equal DT's Scenes From a Memory as prog concept albums, four of them double albums, all cast with some of the best singers from bands around the world.

Sail Away To Avalon
Isis and Osiris.
Into the Black Hole.
Pain
Age of Shadows

Aye. I happen to enjoy Fiction, though their older work is much, much better. Its unfortunate that as a band's life drags on, their music degenerates. :| Some folks need to know when to take a break and focus on other things, lest they pull a Metallica and publish shitty album after shitty album.

Holy shit!  Looks like I missed this, but 凱旋MARCH apparently reformed with the same vocalist under a new name.  Now they're called MASA SAITOH MASA, and they're still awesome.  Time to spend an absurd amount of money importing 日章 I guess.

I'm so happy.

Page 8 and no Technical Death Metal yet?
I'm disappointed. Partially by my laziness. Too lazy to suggest metal.

 Oh, and also:

How about some Gojira?

Gojira is awesome, but you should have posted something from "From Mars To Sirius". In my opinion, it is by far their best album and a masterpiece in general.
