On Larger Maps
« on: March 20, 2012, 03:35:10 pm »

Ok, so i'm going to be upfront; i want to have a good world, but i want to maximize frame rate. I find that larger worlds significantly lower my frame rate, what are some ways to lower that?

No moving fluids.

Reduce z levels.

Reduce number of cavern layers

Turn off weather

Turn off temperature

Kill animals off.

Don't atomsmash (as per the recent fps bomb thread)

Don't spam creation of items.

Larger worlds, or larger embarks? I don't think world size has any impact on frame rate.

I seem to recall that atom smashing does not cleanly remove item data from the main item index. As such, you end up with orphan item data that the game has to chew through every frame.
