He's at Spearmaster levels of exp at this point. CBA to check the exact skill at the moment. As I recall, he immigrated with a pretty high set of military skills to start with, and as the only other immigrant with military skills turned out to be a vampire...

Outstanding!

One of my favorite things about DF is its ability to turn random events, ASCII symbols, and the RNG into fantastic stories in our minds.

Whenever possible, she prefers to consume bacon cheeseburgers and pinot noir. She absolutely detests stupid people.

True.
Cant ask a cod player to do that.

The vodka probably isn't helping that.  :P

And I just noticed that he hates purring maggots. :3

The saddest part of the whole thing is that these stories by and large aren't particularly remarkable within the context of the game (Fath is just a random bloke who happened to be my only soldier, and I used him to murder a vampire), but the depth provided by the game is so great that just a little sprinkle of storytelling fluff can make it something special. I really wish not only that more games were like that, but that there were more games interesting enough to provide motivation and inspiration for storytelling.

It's the whole legends thing as well that gets me - everything becomes a legend that happened in your fort. So you may see engravings pop up eventually of "Fath consulting the vampire. The vampire is being murdered"

You don't get that in many other games, that sense of history with everything that's done!

(I'm a bit bitter, an engraving done of one of my heroes was literally - "an image of the dwarf and a shoe. He is admiring the shoe". They could have picked some of his murderous activities instead!)

Welcome to Daggerbite, a lovely place where we murder and eat magpies.
Killing minotaurs, forgotten beasts and giant cave spiders is all in a days work

Once again, true.
Minecraft and terraria are quite some story-tellers too, but not quite as much as dwarf fortress.
And further then that, i actually cant think of any other great story-telling games.

This community is toady's worlds, and we are the dorfs in that world.
