Well I'm back from a trip to London/Edinburgh, in case all two of you have been wondering where I've been. Anyways I've decided to start a Total War LP, since I can't muster the enthusiasm to raise the Fallout 2 LP again, and I've wanted to play a Total War game for a while.
1 Anyways without further ado let's pick a faction, shall we?
Err, you know what? Rome: Total War has been done to death. I was thinking of something along the lines of, say... Medieval: Total War?
No, no, no! I'm not talking about Medieval 2, I'm talking about
Ah, yes! The orginal Medieval: Total War! The granddaddy of them all!
2Hmm... You know, my trip was to Great Britain, and I do have the expansion...
Therefore I'll have to do the Viking Invasion Campaign, which takes place in Great Britain, Ireland and a couple bits of Scandinavia. The time period starts in 793 and ends in 1066 with the Norman Invasion.
3 Since each turn in the game is one year, and I have the necessary basic math skills, I have about 273 turns to conquer the entire British Isles before the Normans come to mess up everything. Lovely
Thankfully all factions in the Viking Invasion Campaign are playable, so we have a fairly large list to choose from:
The Vikings (White)
The Saxons (Red)
The Mercians (Light Blue)
The Northumbrians (Yellow)
The Irish (Light Green)
The Welsh (Dark Green)
The Picts (Brown)
The Scottish (Dark Blue)
...
...
What? Is it my fault that you know nothing about Great Britain between 793 and 1066?

1. Watching Stworca's Numidia campaign during the trip helped too.
2. Well, Great-great-great-granddaddy at this point. But who's counting? (Me, obviously)
3. If you're wondering what happened in 793, basically the Vikings conducted their first major raid on Great Britian on that date, against the monastery of Lindisfarne. Those poor, poor Northumbrians.
4. Google is your friend at this point. However, If you're wondering about the different strengths/weakness of the different factions in game, it's quite simple: kickass infantry, okay cavalry and vanilla archers. That's pretty much it. Oh sure, variations occur in the different factions (Pictish Chocolate Crossbowmen and Irish Jalapeno Javelins come foremost to mind), but none of the factions really deviate from the formula too much. The Welsh are the exception though, with elite archers instead of elite infantry.
