So uh, what's happening over here? You guys are gearing up to start YAK 3?
I really haven't been following this thread for ages, can anyone give me a lowdown of what I've missed? :)

Depending on how large the economic gap between a city and a castle is, shouldn't those those taking castles get an additional land parcel?

Assuming there are no cities left and it is not taken, I want the western fort amidst the river.

Also, how about uniformizing the traits? And while at it, how will land conversion (open -> urban) work?

@Dwarmin: assuming I do opt for it, are you alright with taking in a royal advsior?

Most importantly, how did the fantasy level vote achieve consensus with less than 10 votes, the winning party having no more tha 4 or 5  explicitly supportive votes?

Tiruin, sorry to say that, but that southeastern city on the coast was called by me earlier in IRC. Shoot will confirm it.

Player: Ardas
Position: Duc of Arborvent. (south-eastern coastal city)
Full Name: Edgard de Arborvent
Bio: 28, 5'11, blonde hair, blue eyes.
The Arborvents survived most of the turmoil and wars by staying to the side and picking their opponents carefully. As one of the families that sided with the north, despite being shunned and attacked by their neighbours, they came out on top and retained their lands after Conricht victory.
As the only son of the Arborvent line, Edgard is an epitome of what a noble is in the eyes of the lower classes: arrogant, cynical and quick to use both his tongue and his blade.
To his equals he is sarcastic, witty and indulges in all manner of in-fighting and plotting, with the occasional courtship and romances that he never takes seriously.
He is an opportunist in every meaning of the word, and no relationship or friendship ever stood in a way of more money or more favour with his superiors. He has little real combat or world experience however, and he is yet to find himself in real danger.
Traits:
Charisma/Wit: +1 to charisma
"How are you to find good company or a warm pair of legs if you can't say a damn word?"
Duelist: +1 to personal combat
"A sharp toungue without a sharp blade is a deadly combination. For the owner of the said tongue..."
Vassal retinue: a merry band of young nobles and sons of his vassals, acting as both bodyguards and company. [Bodyguard regiment]
"Come on lads, lets give'em a good beating!"

I can't tell for sure Ardas, but I think landed nobles start with only two "trait points" and the vassal retinue costs one of these.

Really? We aren't doing 3 traits anymore?

Really? We aren't doing 3 traits anymore?

You can pick 3 traits - or more troops - if you are not a noble, but apart from that you are right.

I read that as "you get 3 traits if you are not a noble or 2 if you are", taking in account how all nobles so far chose but two traits.

Also, is Shoot GMing, as previously planned, or has he decided to full on player?

Argh!

What about the northern coastal city? The Castle in the far north east, before the double border line?

Hey! How does a Knight Bannister defeat his foes?
He stairs at 'em!

...Geddit? ...'Bannister'?  ....

You didn't see anything.  :P

Also, I don't think you've missed anything actually, YAK III is in a whole new place, with a whole new tech and cultural level.

Alsoalso, You are a Lord.  :D

I will do both, rolling in public if necessary to avoid bias.

Also, Yoink: you are welcome to join us if you so desire! YaK 3 has a larger emphasis on politics than YaK 2, hence the high number of landed nobles, but you can still be something else if you want (not a trader or an engineer/scientist, we scratched them because all players who played them never did anything).
Also, Tiruin: You can start as the hedge knight of someone, or you can claim some parcels (and a fort, if you want one) to become a Comte (landed noble without any city).
Also, Ardas: Only two traits/two troops for you. Starting as a landed noble means losing a trait.
Also, Dragor: only a +1 on combat rolls. Players can get a +2 to tactics or to other military related traits because these generally are done in very large rolls, where only a +1 would make next to no matter. I let Dwarmin have a +2 to monster slaying because it is a very, very niche thing - I doubt he'll use it often.

Also, everyone. I'm considering doing a map with the name of the different places. So, if you are a landed noble, post your name, your noble's name, your land - where it is, the name of your city or the name of the region you own - or the name of both, if your city is on an island (I'm talking to you, Dwarmin and Taricus).

Example:

-Shootandrun, playing as Richard Conricht, owner of Altaregia (latin for Highcastle) - the eastern city that is next to the river and the sea.

This will help me take notes.

- Azthor, playing as Comte/Marquis Rakon Tengram of Lorvese, the western castle amidst the river and its hinterlands. Royal Advisor, if approved by His Majesty.

Also, Dwarmin, are high ranking clergymen eligible for land ownership in the kingdom? In medieval Europe, they were not, but I thought it was worth asking.

Traders 'never did anything'? :o The way I remember it, they owned half the planet, heh.
I was thinking of joining, but really I dunno. The problem with YaK for me was the amount of time I had to invest.
We'll see what happens!
