First, Eurika heads to a place where many people would be, (probably a tavern) and ask around for people who have charisma; who have a certain way of speaking that makes them be heard.

It was getting dark and Gav was ready to move out. It would be impossible to do this in one go; least he risked his own death ifhe id just as much as break his concentration for a moment.
But dividing process into three stages meant that he would not be overwhelmed if something went wrong, and that staff would boost the each next stage as it grew in power and activated its imbued properties. It was not all foolproof however, and Gav risked his life if he was caught or if the spell failed leaving him at the mercy of the Milethians.

Before he proceeded though, he decided to test the idea outside of the city walls, in one of the inns that littered the road to the city. Gavin hoped that actually seeing the process in action would give him an idea on how to conduct the experiment proper and perhaps save his skin.

Find an inn some distance from the city during the night. Using a bag of quartz sand aquired in Shola, make a spell circle around the building using the sand. Stand in front of the inn inside the spell circle and activate the soul-absorption to start up the staff and to test the process.

[6156445]
[Crafting > Detection by someone else > Test > Type of detection (I had said a defensive artifact on a 1, 3, 5, a mage on a 2, 4, 6) > power of the mage > attempt to find him > attempt to delete the threat]

While you are standing inside the circle, a gush of wind comes from the West. Most of your circle goes away with it. However, when that happens it's too late to stop - you'll have to do this without your spell circle. When you begin taking the life-forces inside the inn, you feel... A presence. Someone, in the city, has discovered you. He has a mage's soul - but he is weak, weaker even than you are. Not a very dangerous threat. You finish the test without any hardships, despite the failure of the circle, and everyone in the inn dies quietly. The energy goes without any problems into your staff.

Now, as for the mage. You start looking for him in the city using magic - it is quite easy, since he came out in a mental form to watch your ritual. You follow his fleeing soul to his home, where his body is sleeping. The mage is obviously very novice at defending himself magically. As you find his exact location, your tracking spell triggers something - a protection rune. The rune, which must have required alot of talent to make, might start a counter attack, and you're not sure if you can handle the power of such...

In Mileth, a house explodes in blue flames.

Maybe the would-be mage was a little bit over enthusiastic when he prepared his protection rune.

"IT WORKED! HAHAHA HAhaha... hehe he."

Gavin stopped to catch a breath and begun laughing again. He might have had a little trouble when working, but the result was correct. He was going to do it.

Return to city and request meeting with Lord of Mileth during the day.

[Thatkid is currently away. I sent him a PM to check if he'll come back or if I should play his char during his absence. Sorry to keep you waiting.]

[5] Everybody at the nearest tavern agrees on one thing - the best man in the Storm Coast to talk to crowds [1] died a year ago from camp fever. He lived in [4] Shola, and he may or may not have had apprentices that survived the sickness. His name was Areath di Serro.

You are allowed to visit the Lord, as long as you leave any weapons outside. When you enter, he looks at you pointedly, waiting for you to start the conversation.

Gavin took care to leave his things outside with the guards, including the staff, which right now was wrapped in some dirty rags. Overal, Gavin tried to look as inconspicuous as possible.

He took a small bow in front of the lord and begun.

Milord, my name is Seth and I'm a travelling scholar from Shola. No doubt you are aware of the plague that has currently beset one of your Southern neighbours, and in pursuit of my curiosity as well as worry over the lives of people here, I decided to come and lend you some help. No doubt you will need to some way of preotecting yourself from the disease and foul air that spreads with it. I have prepared a way to prevent the city from being infected however. What say you, milord?"

Well, the tavern wasn't all that helpful. Mark considered where he might go to investigate what Laythe's disposition was, and concluded that (aside from public opinion, which was rather hushed apparently) the countless functionaries and minor nobles that would no doubt be infesting the queen's court would have a more accurate appraisal of who she was.

Making an effort to not be overt, Mark heads to the castle and mingles with the court while trying to find out a)what the opinion was on Laythe and b)if there are opportunities for work here.

"I see no inclination to provide your troops with passage aboard Ligorian ships Kathos. Besides, you have your own money, and you know how to secure passage on a merchant vessel, if william is unable to provide transport for you. Now, off with both of you, If I see you two again, it'll be far too soon."

Orders, actions and other miscellanea that fits in here:
- Business tax is to be raised to 15%
- All land in Ligoria not controlled by the crown, nor House Alanis' estate are to be taken back into crown custody.
- The Bleeding Scale, and 'Merc & Dirks' are to be seized upon crown authority, The bleeding scales due to its owner being in league with leading criminal elements, the mercenary business in accordance to royal edict (See Below.)
- State religion is to be changed back to none. The state will not be involved in affairs of faith, and vise-versa (Unless legal affairs, then Ligorian law takes precedence over Talolist and other religious law.
-cessation of all hostilities on the border expansion, whilst focussing on building up the unsettled land that we have.

-"Edict of private militaries." a set law prohibiting most private militaries within Ligoria as well as outlawing mercenary recruitment and actions within Ligorian territory.
 - No mercenary force may recruit or otherwise operate within Ligorian territory, punishment for violation of this law is death.
 - Vassal forces within Ligorian territories are restricted to one heavy upgrade, may not purchase horses, nor acquire tacticians or skirmishers (May not take the Tactician, Cavalry, Ambusher or Heavy II upgrades.).
 - Assets related to forming, maintaining or otherwise supplying a private army will be seized and taken into crown custody.

More actions likely to come later.

He looks at you suspiciously and sneers.

"You know a way to stop foul air from reaching the city? Well, do talk, O master of medicine."

Making an effort to not be overt, Mark heads to the castle and mingles with the court while trying to find out a)what the opinion was on Laythe and b)if there are opportunities for work here.

[3] The people at court talk with you, viewing you as a curious foreigner. They answer your questions without any problem. [4]Although there are doubtlessly loyalists to the republic amongst the people, the men and women at court seem to favor her return. Kathos had not been the best of administrators during his reign, and his determination not to rely on the courtiers to do anything got him few friends. Laythe does not have to fear any treason from them. [1] When you ask them if there are opportunities for work here, though, they have no answer for you. These minor nobles have probably never worked in their lives, and most of them never will.

[2] The bleeding scale is taken over by the crown, but it is simply a tavern. Without criminal activities in it, it has nearly no worth at all to the Queen. [5] The men and women of the Merc & Dirk accept to work for the crown without complaining, although some may wonder what the crown could fear from an association providing bodyguards.

[5] Timothy accepts to give his land to the crown (the fact that he was surrounded by soldiers when given the order may have helped) but he asks to keep a place at court, as a minor nobleman.

[2] A letter is sent to you by the Archbishop of Moun, about your "denial of the one true faith" and "surrender to the foreign heresies and devilries of faraway shores" and other "abandonment of all civility and decency". Nothing very serious, but he seems slightly annoyed.

At the ligorian court

The morning after the discussion in the throne room, Kathos returned to the palace, humbly asking for an audience.

All businesses must pay the tax. No-one gets an exemption from it. I am sorry but I will follow that logic through

 - Laythe Ralia

Kathos finds that while he does get an audience, it's with one of Laythe's bodyguards rather than the woman herself, considering her statement at the last meeting.

Further Orders:
-Slavery is to be re-legalized. However, slaves freed due to the abolition are still free. No reclaming of slaves is to take place.

-A new set of courtiers are to be inducted into the court, as well as finding jobs for both Blackadder and Timothy if they have any skills of use for those offices.

- Dignitaries are to be sent to Galam, Shola and Vasir, inviting either the lords, or a representative of theirs to take part in a diplomatic meeting.

Kathos rolled his eyes when he saw the bodyguard. I ask for a queen and I receive an eunuch... He thought, before speaking.

"What is your name, your rank, your reason to be speaking with me and the level of importance about which we can talk? I'm here about nation-wide level of security, and what I'll say here must never leave this palace. Do you have the necessary authority to do this discussion?"

"It involves a rather ingenious but not very complex process. You see milord, my experiments with medicineand alchemy led me to an interesting conclusion. Simple quartz sand can ward off foul air, but only when dispersed in accurate shapes. Now, it is important to be prepared ahead of tim and carry out the work as soon as possible. Its up to you whether we proceed."
