A messanger arrives at the gates of Ligoria, clad in full plate dracodian armour of course, flanked by two fully armed and armoured escorts. "I request an audience with your king" short pause "Or Queen or lord or whoever is currently in charge" in the most authoritave voice he can manage
Request an audience with whoever is in charge of ligoria

Why yes, the volunteer was most... useful. Although I won't have any more need of him. Besides, my experiment is advancing swiftly, and to test my hypotesis the experiment must be repeated, this time in a grander scale.

While things like Gods and demons may or may not exit, you must concede to the fact that magic does, and as such it would be wise to take several precautions against any potential threats that may lie beyond.
As such, I've taken up to constructing an arcane resonance detector. It will allow for detection of any hostile use of magic, but it works only with living targets who manipulate magic. Sufficient to say, testing and proper installations are required. That is why I hoped to ask for permission to construct my apparature in the city and for some servants to carry out the work with me....

Gavin was wondering how much did Cain actually knew. Was he merly putting on appearance of one ignorat to the superrnatural powers or was he truly so blind to everything that was not material?

"I wouldn't be surprised if Cain did, I did bring Hyte along with me. Odds are he knew the minute I set foot in Galam knowing him. I was probably a valuable bargaining chip for Eshir at the very least. He could've leveraged a fair bit out of Kathos and Nikepheros in exchange for me.

I have to ask though, Nikepheros' death? Seems.. odd. I know I held no love of the man after what he did, but it's just strange to find him dead, no warning, no obvious suspects, besides me, and I didn't have the money to hire assassins to go after him, and generally just a mysterious death..."

"Could have, didn't. Probably hoped to make a contract out of a civil war...one you're trying to start. Ever think you're maye being played?" She fidgets a little with her sword, "Yes, Nike's death is obviously suspicious. We all have our suspicions...knowing Kathos, if he did kill Nikephoros I'm sure there was a reason. Kathos is a man of principles at the very least"

The runner doesn't return by the end of the season.

[55,?] "If it eases your conscience that man slit the throats of children in the homes he robbed, leaving the parents to grieve. I'm not concerned for the loss given he served a purpose. While I will admit I'm not an expert on mages, I don't doubt you could find a way to sniff out your fellows. I also can't deny it would be an interesting little piece of fun..." He thinks it over a bit, "Build it in your lab...but I don't want it first activated in the city. I may not be an expert, but even I know that tendancies to burst into large balls of fire follow mages..."

"Any contract as a result of a civil war would be worthless due to a lack of funds of which either side could pay with. And it's not as if they sent an envoy to dicuss anything with Eshir at all.

As for Kathos being a man of principles... Seems like he has a lack of a definable "Principles" for that to apply to. Or at the very least he changes them fairly often. And honestly? Replacing Nikepheros with William is hardly a sound political or strategic move..."

Gavin left Cain dissapointed. Fact was that Cain, while not knowing much, did predict the outcome quite accurately. Maybe not exaclty fire, but fireworks were a guaranteed outcome, and Gavin still wondered how to carry out the final transformation of the stone.

Fortunately, stone was prepared, cut and ready to be set in the proper mounting on the staff. While Gavin considered obtaining or crafting a magically charged staff for the Quartz crystal, it did not appear to be very effective return for effort put in. Besides, he had no knowledge or materials on staves.

It was time to pick up the equipment and venture into some other town or place where the charging could be carried out. Where people were more guilibble...

Set out to Mileth, to arrive there for Autumn (no more moves from me until autumn)

Daricor was getting worried, there was still no sign of the runner from Moun, he may come back disguised as a citizen, so perhaps all newcomers must be watched. the worry of the plauge was still in his mind, and maybe he should find out what the lords of Mileth are doing about it, perhaps even personelly
Keep men in Mileth to watch for anything unusual, specificaly for a plague bearing citizen, but generally anything unusual,(and keep watching for missing runner) also try to find out what the lords of mileth are doing about this rumerd plauge and try to find out what could of possibly happend to the runner without putting ourselves in danger. Hed for mileth with bodyguard and leave other regiment behind

[4] You'll arrive in Mileth come Autumn without incident. ((Sadly))

[1] Mileth has no apparent fear of a plague and for the most part appears to think of it all as a superstitious hoax.

[24] You and your men will arrive in Mileth in early Autumn. No word before then from your runner is gathered.

((An update will show up at the season change))

"Money isn't everything...but if I am sure of anything, it's that there are few things Eshir couldn't make a profit off of in some form or another.

I fully expect William to get himself killed to be honest. He has enough problems in Polca to keep himself occupied let alone any real authority in Ligoria. I don't think Kathos would ever give him the position until he handles his problems in Polca. After all, what good is a military leader that can't win the smallest of battles in his own backyard?"

"Probably too much effort involved with anything involving Ligoria though, if Galam's withdrawral from Motavi is any indication. May be a prelude to worse things to come though.

As for William, I don't know. I have a feeling he'll get the position before he cleans up his mess in Polca..."

"Put some men in the docks. She has a ship, and we have none, so  I expect that she'll try using it to starve the port...or to get her men in to flank us. As for Laythe...may I be so bold as to suggest I go and drag her back to Ligoria, dead or alive? I can probably get a message to my spy..."

Kathos thought for a moment. That would place you beyond my reach and with knowledge of my plans, William, and we both know that you are not exactly very loyal... But you do not know everything yet.

"That mission is dangerous and has few chances of succeeding... You are perfect for the job. I will pretend to give the command to Talvius while you're away, which should make him happy, and I'll start working on the defense of the city. Be careful, though. I'll need every good man in this kingdom before this story is over, I fear..."

And don't forget which side you're on.

Eurika discreetly (in other words, without too much fuss) drops the bag's mouth just before entering the tent/conference hall/wherever the two military leaders are talking, and strides in, picking up her pace and leaving the guards a step or two behind her.

"Sorry to interrupt, but I have something to tell you," Eurika says to Laythe.
"Y'know ... in private? It's a slightly personal matter, I'd think."
