"And to be honest, I'm not going to deny it either. I know I screwed up at Mileth, and a lot of people paid the price for it. For the most part, a lot of what happened at mileth is directly my fault, and I full well take responsibility for it."

"Well that's good to hear. So responsibility means coming back to Ligoria to be arrested? Honeslty, you didn't exactly leave in the most noble of fashions either - looting the treasury, stealing a ship, etc..."

Library appeared to contain useful information. Just what Gavin needed. It would be interesting to see if its possible to store spare energy somehere, like some sort of phylactery or a crystal. He had some cursory knowledge of the subject, but he hoped that the books he found would help him to solve his chronic problem of constant underpoered state. He could not always drain someone, and he could not utilize sources like leylines or earth for his magic like others.

Research on methods of storing souls in crystals from the books found. Make relevant notes and return to Shola.

[3?] Notes made will facilitate further research on the project intended (+1). You still feel you have a ways to go before you can finish successfully and with minimal risk of failure.

Also, while Laythe is talking with Alaria, Eurika wandered around, asking Laythe's soldiers/employees about Laythe. Maybe talking them into inadvertently revealing more info then they normally would say. Also, talk mostly to the rank-and-file. Maybe also ask about the Lord of Polca, whoever he is.

[43] The men seem to have no reason not to talk to you. Much of the information you gain from them isn't really a secret, or the secrets you gain you already knew at this point in travelling with her.

Lord of Polca? If you're referring to William, you learn his prior history with Ligoria. If you meant the Prior one, he's dead by William's hand.

-Terryn provides his spy with his remaining .4d. The spy is to use these funds to falsify heinous crimes for the various members of the "resistance" beginning with the leader (who will be accused of the /worst/ crime) and going down. Orphans and the Homeless may be victimized, if that is what it takes to complete the ruse. As soon as the evidence is planted, members of the Thornbred and Crimson Guard will be notified by an anonymous citizen and sent in to make an arrest.
-If possible, Terryn secretly takes .2d funds from the Polcan treasury to further aid in this endeavor.

-Now in charge of Polca in William's absence, Terryn has Lizzy take 2d from the Polcan treasury to purchase a warehouse or two and begin to convert it/them into an orphanage and schoolhouse. If she can get a better deal, and save some of that rather than spend it, she should.

[??] Your plan, strangly, succeeds for the large majority of your intent. You manage to get a good chunk of the mid-to-upper leadership structure. Your spy never did find out or meet with who the actual leader was, but given the blow they've just taken to their 'resistance' its unlikely they'll recover any time soon - if at all.

Warehouse bought, construction started. Will likely be finished end of Autumn - just in time for the orphans not to freeze to death on the streets this winter.

Dracius looked around, the area was ideal for settlement, but it was rather open, easy for a passing caravan or runner to see, it looked like they might have to establish diplomatic relations sooner than he thought they would have had to, but for now settlement was his top priority, he sent his men off to set up camp tomorrow they would settle the land, then later, he would have to talk to the nearby powers

Order men to settle the land and lookout for anyone who might notice the settlement and report to me when they do see someone (put all resouces necessary into it)

Making a settlement isn't difficult. You can create a basecamp for your men without any real effort. Your men can scout the area for land to claim if you want, but without any source of population you won't exactly be gaining any taxes off the land, but it is sort of a requirement prior to any other ventures of substance.

"No, Responsibility is fixing all the damage I caused. And the fact is, I can't do that while the republic is in power. Being arrested or otherwise incapacitated would be counterproductive to such.

As for the actions I did leaving Ligoria, Those aren't something I'm proud of. Yet more thing I have to set right, and something that incarceration or death won't fix."

The trip was rather productive, as Gavin was carrying bunch of papers in his hand. When he entered his lab, Eurika was nowhere seen or heard. She must have left with her employer. Not that he was overtly bothered by the eccentric woman. Except when she was life-threatening. Which was most of the time.

Spreading his papers on the table and looking over the notes again, Gavin begun wondering on the type of a crystal or gem he could use. A big piece of quartz or a diamond was the most appealing choice, but maybe other stones had better properties? A ruby, sapphire or an emerald? they all had to be tested, but jewels were a pricey commodity. It would be suspect if he asked Cain for any precious jewlery, but he wasn't interested in actual gold (not for the research anyway), but big, raw, uncut stones. He suspected that cutting them and polishing them might improve their properties, but the base had to be determined regardless. With his money in the pocket, he set off for the markets yet again.

Collect and buy various crystals and jewels. With help of notes begin testing their soul-holding properties and usefulness for conducting/amplyfying magic.

-Terryn visits the men who have been arrested, one by one not as a group, with the irreproachable evidence that has been brought against them. He gives them two sets of choice:
The first choice, given to all:
Admit guilt so that their families may continue to own their property after their death.
Or maintain their innocence and lose all their property as a criminal.
They are informed that they will be executed either way, it is simply a matter of what happens afterwards.

The second choice, given only to those who admit their "guilt":
They may provide a list of names of their co-conspirators and their leader in the resistance. If they do so, their sentence will be reduced to exile.
Or they may remain silent and defend their cause, and be executed all the same.

Nobody is to be executed or exiled until an action is requested for it, please.

-Terryn also checks to see if the sale of slaves is legal in Polca.

[2] You don't find anything that's overly good at holding soul energy, but your selection wasn't great to being with.. Further research may be required.

Appears there's nothing listed as contraband in Polca

[254] Most of them appeal to the notion of saving their families and/or coughing up names. Prime leadership is apparently an outsider with funding and backing. Supplies have been provided randomly at various dead drops. Meetings have been sparse and [1] haven't happened in some time. Local leadership is under that of a blacksmith who lost everything when the Drydock was destroyed by William some time ago.

The platform for "Gavin's" execution still stood, by Terryn's orders it had remained standing after William had left- A stark reminder to the people of Justice, he had said, but in reality tearing it down would have just been a waste of a perfectly good execution platform. He stood upon it now, quietly watching the gathered crowd.

When the time came, one of his men handed him a scroll. One by one the "guilty" were ushered onto the stage as he read their names aloud. "Angelos, the Cobbler. Pleads guilty to murder...Marinos Argicolas. Pleads guilty to assaulting the orphans of Polca..." The list went on. He had carefully arranged the names so that those few to be executed would be spread without. The last man was, of course, an execution. It would be folly to end things on anything but a somber note.

-Publicly read the charges of the men, executing those who have not given any information. The people are to be informed that those being put into exile will be deported at an unspecified date so as to prevent any acts of vigilante justice.
Any family members of the exiles-to-be may deliver letters of farewell to the Lord's manor, and those exiles may in turn write a single letter in response. Any family members of the exiles-to-be who wish to depart with their loved ones may come to the Lord's Manor with no more than they can carry, and will be placed under arrest alongside the criminal until such a time as they are removed from Polca.

-Terryn secretly sells the exiles and anyone who goes with them into slavery. He tells the populace that they have been sent by boat to Lonemine, Preston, or the Jarldom depending on each person's individual choice.

Damn. either his idea was flawed, or his materials weren't up to scratch. Most materials either retained very minuscule amounts that leaked very quickly or were totally unresponsive at all. But the notes indicated that it was possible to do something like that...

He had to rethink his idea. He was taking raw, unprepared material. The stones he used were either rough or small. Too small for what was planned. He would need a pure, big crystal.... But where would he find one? A diamond heist? A mountain crystal found in a mine? Research did not provide great specifics, but went deeply into mechanics of it. And thse descriptions seemed to prove him right.
Gavin would have to either find, buy or steal a big crystal or jewel. It did not necessarily had to be something expensive, as all those crystal items like bows or balls were fashioned from big pieces of clear quartz. Maybe someone around the university would be able to help...

Ask around university for a big piece of clear quartz, preferably cut and polished. Ask for places where one could be obtained if there is no quartz around. With stone obtained, carry out tests again.

send envoys to attempt to 'recruit' people nearby to establish a new city/town, if this brings us into conflict with other kingdoms tell them we will provide them with military support if they let us settle this new city/town

[62?4] Your men manage to russle up a few souls from both the random countryside and the neighboring nations. Seems theres at least a few people looking to relocate somewhere new. Thankfully said nations aren't overly caring if a handful of farmers and such migrate out of town.

"If I was assuming that, I'd have already walked in and gotten myself killed by now. No, I'm expecting a fight alright. Which probalby leads you to the reason I am here for."

"True, so why are you here? I can't imagine you think we'd just agree to help you..."

[5] The stone you manage to obtain rather easily, seems there was a Surveyor in town this week and had some spare supply. He gives you a raw piece of cut quartz and shows you how to polish it.

Further testing with your new stone goes [6] quite well. The stone seem to be a great focus and channel for energy, however storing it seems to be a slight problem. Any energy you put into it seems to slowly leak from it.

[15] Combined you manage 1 'unit' of slaves and no one asks any questions. Crazy that. You replace the 2d to the treasury, with a 10% bonus thrown in for the 'extras' included in the slaves - like women and children.

He found what he wanted. Perfect conduit and amplifier for his powers, as well as storage unit. He had to deal with the technical issue of leakage. Souls were a fairly solid and  unified spiritual element, and drawing power from them, althoug Gavin's natural talent, was not easy. They either had to be with the living owner or on the 'other side'. And while the purity of the crystal was enabled it to retain the energy, it was inevitable that they would eventually slip out.

Gavin could only affect how long would it take for the quartz to retain this energy. The notes mentioned soulstones, but those were semi-legendary and their creation was a difficult and arcane process, combining alchemy, high-level magic and near-instinctual understanding of the nature of creation. Gavin was on the opposite spectrum of resarchers, going through brute force experiments and re-engineering tested formulas.
It was then the matter of streching the energy retention from hours to years to make it a viable item, preferrably centuries if possible. Maybe the stone was too rough and had too big of a surface area? Maybe he had to follow some specific design? Or maybe the stone had to be transmuted?

All three options combined seemed like a step in the right direction. First design, then precision cutting and polishing the stone and finally a ritual to imbue the stone with part of Gavin's own soul-manipulating ability, to slow down the energy leaking to naught and magnify its already impressive magical properties. He would need a considerable amount energy to make the artifact powerful though, and Cain was no William. He had to plan and round up people that would not be needed by anyone. Slaves, criminals, beggars. Gavin abandoned any moral considerations long ago, and the prospect of arcane power was worth sacrificing few hundred useless people.

Research for appropriate stone design, then thave it cut and polished to design. Request meeting with Cain.

-Without releasing the name or identity of his spy, Terryn informs Lizzy of the current going-ons re: Dissidents being funded by an outside Lord. He requests that she not contact William, for fear of the courier being compromised while the trap is still being laid.

-If the Blacksmith can be found, he is to be arrested for vagrancy or some other small crime which might be punished with arrest.
