Eurika leaned back again.

"Miss Laythe, are you familiar with the state of modern war?"

Eurika waited for an answer.

"Not too familiar, no. Of course, if this is about those bloody cannons I swear I'm going to ballistic. Sorry if I don't sound too keen of gunpowder weapons, I had a general that was obsessed with them, and he happened to take my very kingdom from me...

Eurika inclined her head and made to leave, standing and turning.

Convince the guards to let me go, seeing as this was all one BIG misunderstanding.

[5?] The guards are more than happy to let you go, but are quick to inform you you'll be watch out of pure lunacy.

"We have more crazies in town than we know what to do with already...keep calling attention to yourself like this and we'll simply toss you in the stockades and leave you there till you sober up off whatever Sholan holiday you're on"

The Guards bugger off, one keeps looking back at you in paranoia.

He looked at the peasants with a mixture of annoyance and desperation.

"Fellas, I hate to be unpleasant, but William's butchers are on their way here right now, and I'd hate to stay for his clean up. So you better go to your homes while I getthe hell out of here".

Convince the peasants to disperse. Head for the boats. If they don't let me out, drain life out of the peasant closest to me with a quick touch and immolate others with a burst of fire. Then run for the boats

Eurika inclined her head and made to leave, standing and turning.
"However, I do know that sooner or later, they will be widespread, if they happen to be effective. So, if that's your price, I'm willing to pay it Eurika."

"You make a good point...and I sorta forget all about that. I'll cancel the training...most of them are probably dead anyway."
"Of course, the result of a lack of military units means the city is defenseless to most attackers, as evidenced by the looting that happened, should there be a military invasion."

[4vs6] You see a bunch of soldiers arriving. [3] They haven't spotted you yet, but they will if you stay there. [1] The peasants don't go away; instead, they start advancing towards you, determined to give you a beating or three. [4] You manage to drain the life of one of them easily, and he falls on the ground, unconscious. [1] You do not manage to force the soul of the poor peasant to do your bidding - instead, it escapes. A cry from another world is heard in the port as it starts searching for a body; [4] luckily, the unconscious peasant is the first one it tries, and with a red light the peasant gets back the lifeforce that was taken from him. [4] All the other citizens turn around and flee, shouting things about vampires and the end of the world.

[5vs2+3] (I gave the soldiers a large bonus because that was hard to miss) The Crimson Guards have spotted you, and you think that William is with them! They are far away, so you might be able to escape them still. You start running towards the boats.

[2] Once you get there, however, you finally spot the fatal flaw in your plan. Ships need a crew, and half the port saw you casting that fancy spell over there. [5] The soldiers are still far away, so its not too late to change your plan.

"GODDAMN MAGE! COME HERE SO I CAN CHOP YOUR SKULL OUT!"

"Don't let the bastard touch you...something weird happens!"
A moment of silence from his men.
"Oh grow up."

William and three of his men chase after Gavin. The rest attempt to flank him and box him in.

On a completely unrelated note: William cancels the training of those four heavy/watchmen units.

Meeting with Laythe:
"I'll figure something out, Laythe. Probably try to increase the strength of the Crimson Guard."

Eurika half-turned.

"..Thank you. When might production be able to start?"

Also, order the raising of one personal guard regiment at my parcel of land.

"Production? Of what?" Laythe looked slightly confused at Eurika's request.

"...Gunpowder, and more engineers? Metalsmiths?"

Eurika is likewise confused.

"Well, you give the engineers the order, they'll start. Metalsmiths on the otherhand, You'd probably have better luck in Shola, atleast for what you need anyway."

Eurika nodded.

"How many engineers are there? Are they part of a business?"
