"The Black Company? What does a mercenary band has to do with this?"

"They've set their eyes on Polca. Or at least thats what I've heard. And maybe all those stories about them are just stories..But I ain't taking the risk. Sounds like them though. Word on the street is that caravans dont make it to Polca these days."

Ah. How interesting. Kathos thought.

"The Black Company is a band of mercenaries. Talented mercenaries, yes, but mercenaries still. Polca is a vassal state of Ligoria, and this means that they pay a tax to us - and that we will defend it in times of need. If the Black Company attempts to take the city, Ligoria will march against them, and we'll remind the nations of the Storm Coast that they are mere men, and that they can bleed. I have faced worse foes before, and unlike you I do not fear them. However, you two still have a choice. You can force me to elect a politician as the leader of the army, and then you'll have to go to war with him in command, or you can let diplomacy have its way and make William the new Lord Protector."

"Spoken like a man who's never faced em in battle. And never seen the aftermath of what they've done. Look through your history books about a little place called Temuair. Won't find it, cause it don't exist no more. They burned it out of history.

Won't much matter to me who gives the orders, cause if they're stupid I'll change em. And if William's placed in charge we'll be quitting. Likely have to deal with some revolts among the troops too. Still I reckon thats your concern. I said what I meant to say."

"Look into your history books, general, about the Emerald Bay and the Wars of the Seven. I was winning wars when you were still an infantryman, general, and I know a good deal about conquering and burning down cities. If the Black Company wants to get Polca, let them come. If I have to lead the army to war alone because you two decide to abandon your post out of fear, then so be it, and you'll be remembered as the generals who sent a politician to fight a war in their place. It makes no difference wheter or not William becomes Lord Protector. Polca is ligorian territory, and Polca will remain ligorian territory as long as we have men willing to fight in the name of this nation."

"Oh does the politician want to play war? You might have been a real soldier once, but you got out of the game, 'Sir'. Leave soldiering to men what have the stomach for it. Maybe you could go amuse yourself with some tax laws or trade routes or something.

If William's Lord Protector, we're gone. Thats the way of things."

Eurika wanders into the town square, and watches the short confrontation between the lord and the preacher. She sidled up to him and asked,

"You speak interesting words... May I ask what your name is? Perhaps I shall go where you want to at dusk. What do you want to do there?"

Kathos' voice grew colder, while still remaining non-threatening.

"Another general thought that I was no longer a real soldier. Another soldier thought that I was no longer a real fighter. Another man underestimated me, Talvius. Now he is dead, and yet I still live. A woman once thought that she could make me spit on everything that I believed and leave unscathed, and now I rule her nation and she is in exile. An assassin once thought that she could make a game out of killing me, and she died within a few minutes. All these actions happened during the last year, soldier. They all made a similar mistake and it lead them all to their doom. Do not make the same error, general."

Gavin herad the next set of questions. But this time, instead of them being from the obnoxious nobleman, they belonged to a silver-haired woman. A pretty little thing, she looked like someone that could take care of herself, but she did stood in a crowd. Her hair was quite the unsual sight.

"Why, the people call me Aurelius. And my purpose is to enlighten everyone with the word of salvation! But it does not sound that crazy or outlandish once you get the hang of it..."

Train spell casting - aspect control.

[35213]
You manage to increase your understanding of how to control your power more efficiency in only ever so subtle ways. Subtlety has, however, always been a lacking aspect of many of the magically inclined denizens of the Coast. Had they been moreso than they were, maybe they would still be alive... (Net Gain: 10pts)

Go to the leader of Moun's abode (I forgot what he was called) and ask for a meeting.

The Archbishop sits upon a raised dais in the 'Common' Temple of Moun. Common has always been a strange word for a place so uncommon. Decorations, artifacts and murals of nearly every religion known to the coast (and several not) adorn the interior of the building. Many believe that Moun may be the only place in the Coast where one can be open about who, or what, they are without fear of persecution. All the religions are represented among the council, yet none have absolute rule. The Archbishop himself is simply the figurehead, a symbol of the city and its purpose.

Often are the doors to the Common Temple left open to recieve audience of those who come. Most of the visitors seek absolution, confession or simply guidance. A rare few come in search of more. On such instances, the doors may be closed soon after the audience so the council may speak.

"Welcome to Moun and the Common Temple child, you don't look very accustomed to such a place. Where have you left to visit us this day?"

((I take this to mean that I am now aware of The Gilded Lily's association with William?))

-Terryn assures that Gilded Lily's associate that he will be in contact with further information shortly, and then ends the meeting.
-Terryn explains his plan to the gang remnants: The present Guard Captain is incorruptible, seeking only to do right by his job and bring justice to the city's criminals. Terryn wishes to kill him, so that he may be replaced by a Guard Captain who is more likely to have an...open ear to the cause of those who aren't on his side of the law. (Terryn intends to offer himself for the position, which is why I originally wanted to do these meetings privately)
Naturally, should this plan succeed Terryn will have more work to do that the gangs may be able to help him with, all of which will stick it to the man.

Oh, and also:

-Terryn, Oswald, Donald, and Ian, having heard of this young preacher's antics and his apparent claimed knowledge of the recent manifestation of magic, exit at the city at Dusk to learn more. This is considered just another part of the earlier investigation roll, and I don't know why it's bolded.

((Yes, she won't exactly hide her 'protection' of Legality from the current Lord. Theres no reason to hide legal business))

[456] The various fractured alliances of Polcan underworld are intrigued by the idea. Most of them understand that they are far too recognized within the city to be acceptable replacements to the Captain as most of them have probably been arrested by him and his men at some point. They're eager to see what you have in store for the current Lord.

Decry verbal attack on Gavin as act of sin. Keep preaching to the crowds and urging the "faithful" to meet him outside of the city at dusk.

[156] Those in the crowd are receptive to your words, but the comments made against your origin and faith remain valid. Mention of 'gods' had thinned the herd a fair bit to begin with, but those that remain simply wish to know who you supposedly speak for.

William speaks with the Madam about the incident, seeing if she has any info.
Then sends hired scouts out to look around in all directions in a pattern, with marked search areas, to report back in a week, to see if the threat is gone.

[13] "Incident? The raids I'm assuming? Hells if i know! Bastards ran off with a few crates of my wine! I had to import an extra from Ligoria of all places. I hope they are rot in hell! Damn useless city guard..."

[32] You would need to hire merc scouts to get more accurate information, but there's a fair bit of commotion from the merchants in and out, mostly out, of Polca about the bandits cherry-picking caravans. They're starting to get annoyed. As far as they can tell, estimates put their forces at 2-4 full regiments of men who seemingly appear out of thin air any time there's a poorly defended caravan in the area. No one wants to leave town without at least 3 of their own guards - and there simply arent enough guards to go around.

Sea Merchants simply snicker while being cursed with a sea of pirates by the others.

(-1d) [64] A few 'runners-for-hire' have been know to sit in the tavern from time to time getting drunk. Your men hire them early one morning before they have a chance to get lazy that afternoon, and they head out in the night. They manage to gather a very detailed report on the 'bandits' at large. The recognize the men as being part of the Black Company. They're not bandits at all, they're a small time mercenary company outfitted for the vary work they're doing. No one truly knows where they're from, but people say they have their operations out of the mountains to the north.

Composition:
Black Company - Marauders
3 Regiments (Ambush/Raider)

"It stills sounds crazy to me and I've been listening for half an hour."

"Why don't you ask him where he's from and his last name, since he pays more attention to you. He started ignoring me and decrying me as an evil man, which is right in a way..."

"Really? Can you tell me more about it? From just that sentence, it feels very 'crazy', or 'outlandish'."

Eurika smiles a bit at the man, hearing William's words.
She addresses the man again.

"I notice you haven't answered my first... no, second question. What is your full name? They say eyes are the windows into a man's soul, but a name is also indicative, in my belief. Especially last names..."

Terryn grinned. "What have I in store for the lord? Well, I haven't the strength to face him head on, but I'm sure together we could work something out. First, though, I'll need your help in dealing with that Guard Captain of his. We deal with that fool, things'll go a lot smoother from there."

-Terryn explains his plan: If possible, the fractured factions of the underworld may choose to compliment his regiment in any outright fighting. They are not required too, however. Instead, they will use their resources to create a series of disturbances throughout the city. Fires, murders, muggings, whatever they choose so long as it will draw the guard's attention. When the Guard Captain's forces are spread thin throughout the city, Terryn and his regiment will seek to catch him unawares whilst alone/almost alone at the barracks or while moving to one of the disturbances with lesser numbers. They will murder him. Should the gangs have any strength to bear for this portion, they may render aid there as well to ensure success. ((If we go straight into enacting the plan, I'd actually prefer it if we stopped rolling once the disturbances have happened, so I can try to better manage the whens and wheres of the attack on the captain))
