Prior to the return of William to Polca...

[65] During the absence of their leader, the people of Polca are raided several times over the course of a week. The strikes seemed to be timed quite well as to avoid the, albeit only, regiment of guard in the city. Inventory shows several units of goods missing. The persistant raids also make the populace uneasy (-1 order).

Annoyingly, these raiders seem to be hitting random caravans heading in and out of Polca, disrupting your flow of goods (-1 food and staples this season). Merchants are beginning to grow weary of business in Polca and may cease their travels altogether if the situation isn't handled.


Around mid-season...

Rumors abound in the coast of a new independant mining operation in the northern reaches. Mineral deposits are apparently rich and production is at a high point. No one seems to know where the goods are being shipped to however, if they are at all. Diplomatic attempts at trade relations with the mine owners seem to be ignored or stalling for more time.

Tensions continue to rise along Zeman/Verunan borders. Both sides are getting anxious towards the respective build ups. Word of Sholan Mediators being hired to attempt a diplomatic solution has reached much of the coast. No one is quite aware of who is funding the peace effort, but all onlookers are hopeful a war doesnt breakout...at least not any time soon.

Jan just shrugged.

William speaks with the Madam about the incident, seeing if she has any info.
Then sends hired scouts out to look around in all directions in a pattern, with marked search areas, to report back in a week, to see if the threat is gone.

Train Swordsmanship for the season
Upgrade Wine business to size 3 (-4d) and produce an additionnal good (-1d) using personnal wealth. 2.6 ducats remaining

Eshir nods, "Very well. I'll be sure to grow concerned if and when the time arises for such things. Until then, I believe you have other business to attend to in my fair Citadel..." ((Enter Laythe previously))

Using a minor spell, have the bottle thrown across the room at one of the bigger patrons, hopefully sparking a brawl. Once that happens, drain one of the unconscious men(if anyone gets knocked out) and use another spell to set fire to the place. Rob unconscious people and the place, using the fire as cover. Flee the burning building afterwards.

[561] Your attempts to start a fight by "throwing" a bottle at a patron are met with mixed results. You managed to fuel your spell with your own life force as you have a thousand times before, problems began to arise when the bottle you threw exploded in mid-air sending glass shrapnel everywhere. Unfortunately you're also unable to stop yourself and begin feeling light-headed from a combonation of the energy you're building up and the drain on your own life essence.

[5-2] You think quickly and channel the buildup of energy into one of the screaming patrons, subduing them instantly. You're not exactly stealthy about this act and immediately begin another spell.

[462] You manage to drain the poor fellow quite easily due to him being out cold on the floor and setting fire to the building proves difficult as you set fire to the man first. Your finishing appears to need some work, because aside from setting him on fire you also managed to drain enough life from him that he would have likely died anyway.

Before leaving, you pilfer the pockets of the man you just killed (accidentally), netting yourself the key to his house and .[1] ducats. Now if only you knew where he lived...

Polca knows there's a mage in town, however descriptions vary and are highly unreliable.

Roland came to, his ears ringing, the world spinning.  Flames flickered around him. A bead of blood running from his forehead formed a small stream that filled the cracks in the masonry.  He pushed him self up and onto his side, laying there for a while staring into the chaos.  He sighed, putting a hand to his wound and staring at the blood on his fingertips.  Lifting himself onto his feet he stumbled towards the door, smoke obscuring his vision.  Reaching the large metal door opening it allowing the smoke to ascend into the night sky, He slumped against the stairs leading up into the alley.  He breathed deeply before standing again and closing the doors, sealing them with clay so no air could enter or escape.  Climbing up the stairs and heading through a side door into an adjacent building, a small home.  Roland tries to speak, but coughed, his mouth dry and lungs full of smoke.  He attempts to yell again.

"Gunther!" He goes into a coughing fit, "*coff* Gunther! You damn pest get me.. get me some cloth."

Treat my wounds, wait for the fire to die down.

A robed figure approaches the gates of the lord of this city ... Polca. She softly asks the guard to please do let her in, because she has a somewhat urgent to her matter with Lord William. Would it be OK if she received an impromptu appointment with him right now?


(...Incidentally, what time is it? xD Also, how's THAt for a paltry short intro! D:)

A silent guard wearing a shining steel breastplate and a Crimson Longcoat makes to poke his dozing companion, who is wearing a dark blue, almost black coat, but the other Guard shifts out of the way and addresses...the female figure.

"To have a meeting with Lord William, you will disarm- and receive a voucher for your weapons- then you will be searched by a Guard of whichever gender you would prefer. If he or she finds any weapons after we told you to disarm, you will not be getting them back.
You will also have an escort of two guards. Also we need a name, or nickname, you'd be surprised how many hooded figures come to speak with his Lordship.
Do you accept these terms?"

"Oh, of course. I cannot imagine the many legions of robed figures that would besiege such a high placed one as the Lord William. I have three swords of varying sizes, and a glass bottle. Call me ... Eurika. I don't care who searches me. In short, I accept," she says cordially.

Eurika hands her travel pack over, clearly showing the guards the pair of daggers inside, and removes her longer sword from its place on her belt. The leather-sheathed weapons clinked on some metal part as they were removed.

((Would have appreciated knowing you were going to start your character on fire and/or with property damage - some indication as to what building you were in when this transpired would be helpful as well))

[36] Your wounds turn out ot not be as serious as you first thought and you bandage them as best you can with the cloth you were brought. The fight dies down, but takes several hours. Little assistance is provided in expunging the flames, and after they die out you're sure most anything flammable was probably destroyed.

"You'd be surprised Madami."

The silent Guard takes the items and puts them into a chest beside him, marking down the items on a piece of paper, which he hands over to the woman.

"Go on in, Madami Eurika."

After a brisk search by a female Guard, Eurika is show into William's office after passing a bookish blond wearing disheveled clothing and a smile, on the way down the stairs.

William is- once again for those pay attention- leaning back in his chair with his feet up on the desk, the loaded hand crossbow, however is now laying in full sight.

William is wearing what looks to be custom leather and chainmail armor over a black tunic and a sporting black hat. The man himself is young, around the age of twenty, Eurika would guess. He is tall and well built, with short, fresh cut strawberry blonde hair. He's handsome enough, but a bit pointy and lean with predatory ambition in his grey eyes.
He's grinning and his voice is sardonic

"Hello, Madami Eurika, how are you doing today?"

After she responded he nodded in a way that would suit the answer.

"So what can I help you with? Oh and please don't say by dying, if your an assassin, that gets tedious, after a while..."

Eurika didn't bother answering the first question, except for with a nod.
She watched with interest the way William reacted - another nod, like he was on autopilot. Interesting.

"I'm perfectly alive. I was actually here to propose something that would probably be beneficial to both milord and I. Before I start, may I ask that you to not harm me after my short tale?"

Eurika paused - this was a pretty reasonable thing to agree with. She knew that many people feared magic for no reason, and thus she tried to gauge William's expression.

"Like everyone knows, the rise and fall of nations is dependent on power. Whatever form it may be, power is power. Sometimes power is in the form of political ties - other times, it is in the form of mercantile wealth and knowledge. Sometimes, power is knowledge, literally, and other times, power is the ability to cut off a head or two.
"Theoretically speaking, if there was a person who could have raw power at their hands, would one persecute him? Raw power, a potential, a ball of clay waiting to be shaped into anything, razor sharp ceramics, a dainty teacup, a decoration. . . It would be unwise to fear that person. What is wise (again, theoretically,) is to take that person, use him as a tool to further one's motives. Now, if that person were to be abused, the raw power would turn against the one who used it, and leave some sort of wound and inconvenience him in any magnitude. If the person is fairly treated, he shall become a versatile boon in construction a great country to last the ages.
"Now, nothing can come free from cost and its ever constricting grasp. This raw power, the ability to use that raw power, has a certain chance of not doing what it is supposed to do. This is like a cracked teacup in firing it; it is like black blemishes on a celadon pot. In this case, the failure to transcribe power into power causes undesirable effects. Say, an explosion. Is this cost too much to pay for, to be able to force nature to its knees, say, or suggest something to another? Some path that milord desires more than the other one does?
"Let us call this ability to sculpt power into power 'magic', and let us call the ones who can do this a 'mage'. I only ask for milord to hire me, and provide for my basic needs as well as other materials that are needed to harness power, or reduce the chance of failing, or enhancing the skill of the crafter.



(Incidentally,  I think this might be a Charisma roll plus one.)

William seems to zone about half way through Eurika's speech.
"Well brilliant to have you on board. My last mage vanished during an experiment...on a boat full of people...none of which saw him leave..."

William stares off into the distance for a moment.

"Well, hopefully that want happen again. Do you posses any other skills to speak of?"
