"William ain't around, sir." one of the men who had accompanied Bjorn explained. Terryn sighed, and rubbed his eyes with the heel of his hands. "Bastards as hard to get a hold of as I am, it seems. Soon as I figure out how to contact him again, and he up and leaves..."

The Hedge Knight sighed and shook his head. "No matter. We've some unfinished business. Let's see to that."

Terryn's men spread out throughout the city, wearing plainclothes. Their goal is to figure out where the Guard Captain lives (assuming he has a place outside the barracks) and where he spends his free time (ie. where he can be caught alone, away from his men). They are to do this as inconspicuously as possible.
Terryn himself goes to meet with the Guard Captain.

"Well I'd prefer you waited in the waiting area and the preference of only one of us matters-"

The guard gets cut off by the doors opening, with Eshir standing in the entryway.

"Syle, I like your father enough to give you this job...but it doesn't mean I won't kick your ass down main street for your attitude..." The guard opens his mouth to object, but is halted by Eshir hand being raised. "I have no doubt that Lord William here likely provoked you - I hear he's very good at provoking people. Get back to your post, William - with me"

You're led through a series of halls and doors until you reach his office. Make makes no effort to hide Hyte's presense in one corner of the room, anothe rman you don't know stands in the other corner.

"You seem to be doing well for yourself these days William. Back in the graces of Ligorian Nobility, Duke of your own little piece of nowhere...on my front step no less."

[31] The Captain seems a bit paranoid since William took over Polca - he rarely travels alone, but usually not with more than a handful of his own men. His residence is, however, in the city barracks.

"Yes, very sorry about that, I couldn't find any other slice of nowhere easier to take control of. But there are other things more important then me taking over some city, and most of them are under large rocks."

William grinned.

"I'm more interested in if Polca had a protection contract with Galam and what were the conditions of said contract if one did exist."

"Well, it seems this Manor really was sitting on top of a leyline after all; accessing it did take quite a while though, chances are that someone or something, more likely than not the dungeon's first owner, had previously tapped into it and done a shoddy work out of the binding. Given the low prevalence of magic in the region and some of the intel my retainers've managed to gather, it is not wholly outside the spectre of possibility that they may have been somehow related to the Orb's demise. Iocaun ought to have made his way to the checkpoint and set up an outpost, but it'd be far too great a risk to contact him right away, it'd be best if I were to focus on getting back in shape in the meantime, I will try and have him strike a bargain with the local Lord, that William fellow, when he arrives at the start of the Winter; Hatcuri are not very welcome in this region and that is twice true for mages".

*Practice tapping into the leyline for the season (train Power).

(It seems I don't get to escape these eerily long monologues just yet)

"As well as to dicuss a certain agreement with me, William. I believe the messenger already told you what it is about."

Laythe spoke as she sat in her chair, looking behind from it at William.

"I'm guessing that you'll want to take care of this first? Or did you plan to discuss other matters with Eshir first?"

"Ah, Good Queen Laythe, pleasure to see you again..."

William gave a half bow and then seem to consider something. Chironas eyed Laythe with considerable hostility and his men were blank faced and uncaring. But most of his entourage was quietly wondering if William would go through with this, or would pull another stunt like the last time when he said he was going to marry a noblewoman.

"I would like discuss our agreement, and to tell you the truth, I find it interesting as to how much you would sacrifice to regain your kingdom."

"So, was that messenger telling the truth, when you would marry me to secure my assistance in little fight between you and the Republic?"

"Fifty percent of the Kingdom's power, meaning we rule as equals...Freedom to do what I wish, providing it doesn't harm Ligoria, those are the two most important things, the other stuff can wait."

"I would suggest soon. Before Summer, seeing as they're weak with the death of Nikepheros, and that it would good to not give them time to react or find out about our...deal.

"Those two things I can agree to, as long as you stay within legal bounds for your freedom. As for the timing, I can support that. Quicker we can make our move, the quicker the republic will fall. I'd assume that all the other arrangements can come at a more convenient time."

"The only plan I was truly preparing was a naval invasion, relying on hired mercenaries to make up the bulk of the force. That plan is unlikely to succeed due to a lack of mercenaries, as far as I know. The only other plan I can think of right now is for you to take Nikepheros' old position and couping the republic."

"Yes, but that's unlikely to happen, seeing as Kathos trusts me about as much as I would trust a boat with a hole in the bottom."
