[6-6-6-2-6-3-4] Alaria's men find a suspicious-looking individual near the source of the explosion. When they bring him before the general and the queen (and Eurika, who stands in a corner) all three women can see what the soldiers meant by "suspicious looking" - the man's skin is covered in tattoos, and they are literally glowing with energy. Eurika feels the arcane teeming around him, and the other two are just as convinced that a wizard stands before them.
Alaria calls in one of her sergeants to lead an interrogation. The officer looks unsure of what to say, and for a while he simply stands there, trying to find some steel somewhere in him. Finally, he starts speaking.
"Alright. Now, son, we can do this the easy way or the haraaaaargh-"
The soldier was interrupted in the middle of his usual introduction sentence by the mage, who easily broke free from the men holding him and grabbed him by the throat.
What followed was confused.
The two soldiers who had been holding the man fell to the ground, twisting in pain as burns appeared on their arms. Alaria, Laythe and Eurika all took their weapons, while more soldiers started rushing towards the mage. The man with the glowing tattoos shouted a few words, pointed a finger towards Laythe, and he disappeared. In his place appeared a purple ball of energy. For half a second it did not move and everyone in the surroundings started to back away - then it flew towards Laythe.
It would have hit her right in the head, if not for Eurika's quick thinking. She jumped in front of the queen and absorbed the hit for her, taking it on the left shoulder. The spell - that she had recognized as a minor magic missile - deformed her armor horribly and bruised her shoulder, but she remained otherwise unharmed.
Silence fell on the surroundings. A soldier called for a doctor to help the wounded. The two men who had been holding the wizard suffered from third degree burns, the man who had been grabbed by the throat was dead - a physician said that it was from an heart attack, but Eurika knew that his life-force had been taken from him - and Laythe was lucky to be still in one piece.
