Pig iron buckler?

My armorsmith decided to make a pig iron buckler so is it any good or should I just hide deep in my fortress?

Deep it.  I believe that it's either as good or worse than iron.  Either way if you've got pig iron you're producing steel already, so it doesn't beat steel in any case.

IIRC masterwork shield > artifact buckler.

I could be wrong on that point.



For certain though, the material means squat. It doesn't boost your defenses at all; it only matters for bashing, which you shouldn't care much about in the first place. All you should care about is quality.

Not in my experience. For every brain bashed in with my copper shields, 10 other enemies die to axes/swords.

I always use artifact shields of any material if I get them. Buckler artifacts I dunno though... if I'm reading the wiki right, they're a tiny bit worse than masterwork shields.

More importantly, it's a buckler.  Bucklers will never be as good as shields.  At least not with current workings.  If bucklers cost 1/2 as much and all equipment breaks, then bucklers become an economic option.  But as it stands, no, artifact buckler is worse than no-quality shield.
