Wild Elephant on loose, Has fort gripped in terror!
« on: March 18, 2012, 04:39:34 pm »

So apparently I released an Elephant from a cage trap I THOUGHT was tame.
It has a name,
it has "tame" next to it...

However I keep getting "Task interrupted, Stray Elephant"
I found the Elephant in my animal list and it IS listed as tame.
I told someone to butcher and...

"Ursit Cancels Butcher animal, interrupted by Elephant"

I tired to "Kill" him but I can't target him because he's (sigh) listed as tame...

What shall I do?

1. Wait for it to starve
2. Curl in up in a ball and cry
3. Set up a cave in trap
4. Magma
5. Flood
6. Goblins

That elephant must've killed a Dwarf before you tamed it... Which made it an enemy of your civ, whilst still being a part of it. A more benign form of loyalty cascades.

Sadly this was genned in 31.0 not 34.0
The Elephant has no need of pastures to be fed and can wonder around forever...

There is no way to trap it since if I tell people to build around it they just get "interrupted"

Nope, this is your personal fortress demon, an omnicidal elephant sent from the very gods themselves.

The only saving grace is that the "tame" tags seems to be keeping him from actively Killing people.

So.... I have these Giant beast, wandering around without a care in the world with all my Dwarves fleeing in terror before him.

Sounds like a real "white elephant" gift.

It has a name
Gotta be careful about that.  They get names for trampling dwarfs outside your region, too.  Not just by becoming a pet.  I betcha it got the taste of a dwarf blood somewhere.  Oh noes!  They will never become tame.  Didn't know they said, tame tho.  Ouch, that's cornfusing.  I've had a friendly werewolf visit and kill my squad.  *shrug*  Knutor

DEAR GOD!!!
I thought the Terror was over, but it just gets worse!

The Elephant has claimed to the tallest spire of the Castle and can be seen by virtually any place in the fort.
People are running in Terror everywhere now! The only safety is inside the fort.

Can't, he is listed as "tame" and so can't be targeted...

Also he has claimed a victim...

In an attempt to retrap him I was building a ton of cage traps around the door I originally locked him behind.
One of my Dwarves came up a walk way just as the Elephant cam up the roof.

"Urist Mc Useless cancels build trap, interrupted by Rosatkidet the Elephant"

He dodge out of the way and plummeted to his death.
Rosatkidet then, as if sensing triumph, ran back up to the highest rooftop again and stamped around.

Meanwhile construction of the trap continues, our last desperate home to recage Rosatkidet.

The saga of Rosatkidet has come to an end...For now...

Lulled it into a room with two doors, b ut no other exists.
As soon as it got inside I locked all the doors preventing it's escape.
The room is also sealed so no one can see it any more, preventing any more Terror.

Now although he is trapped he is still stamping around... My Dwarves, having been frightened to no end by the beast are still scared and having trouble sleeping Urist McUseless has had trouble sleeping due to the noise.

We debate what to do with the ragging beast, if there is some way to trap him... Collapsing the tower he is locked in would deal away with him, but it's a massive tower and the Nobles are in a fit about destroying it just for one beast.
Others say they want to re-cage him still, but know of no method.

If the beast could be re-caged, it would make a mighty weapon.
