Immigrants you love
« on: March 18, 2012, 04:27:38 pm »

With history generation the way it is, all migrants have a rich, colorful history behind them (unless they lived a rather boring life).

Are they any immigrants you just absolutely love, completely based on their history?

I just got a wave of 56-ish migrants. I quickly stripped them of all specialized skills, assigned them farming, and didn't bother looking them over, seeing as I didn't need anything other than what I already had in terms on labor.

Suddenly, I got spammed with people trying to give water to someone, and failing seeing as my map has no aboveground sources of water, and the caverns are sealed.

After a quick glance around, I found a dwarf laying in bed with both her legs missing.

I looked her up in the rapist, and apparently, she is 130 years old, and proficient in nearly every weapon skill, with legendary dodging. I immediately assumed vampire, but she turned out not to be one.

After a jog through legends, it turns out she has nearly 5 thousand kills to her name, and lost her legs literally next door to my fortress.

She has quickly become a legendary crutch walker, enjoys a legendary private room, study, and dining hall, and is my chief medical dwarf.

That's really cool.  I did something similar, but in this case it was a mere peasant who outstripped the dwarves with actual doctor skills (but no heart for it).  She had amazing empathy, etc. so I promptly made her the medical officer, and patients who were taking months to heal were suddenly up and about.

Whenever possible, she prefers to consume bacon cheeseburgers and pinot noir. She absolutely detests stupid people.

I had a miner migrate to a fort of mine awhile back. he was in the middle of the line of migrants when the harpies came. terrible feathered witches knocked him unconscious at my forts back door and were promptly chased off by the militia. a year and a half later, I sent this militia to fight a sturgeon in the nearby river. almost all of them were killed. this migrant had been laying just outside the door for all this time, occasionally getting food and water, but never having anyone to help him into a bed. on this day, the evil day of the sturgeon, he awoke and went to the river for a drink. the sturgeon found him and was immediately beat to death by the unconscious migrant who, after a year and a half, had finally mentally arrived at his new home. he was later killed by harpies while out gathering plants.

All is silence. The road is straight, without turning, in darkness. Now let there be an end to all things.
