Pretty sure that if traders die anywhere on your map, the civ that sent them will blame you for the deaths, even if it wasn't technically your fault (of course you can never cause your own civ to siege you, afaik). So probably the elves will not be happy about it.

I'm not sure if there's any way to fix a relationship with a civilization. If it's warring with you, it will remain that way forever afaik. True to the game, you can always worsen relationships but you can never improve them.

And going back to your first question - you should only be concerned about the elves' attitude if they first sent a diplomat to negotiate a tree-cutting limit with you, in which case disobeying it will typically raise their ire. Of course though, nobody cares about elven opinions 8D

Course, i just kill them after trapping them with my bridge.
Then i train some marksdwarves and put them behind fortifications.
If they dont siege, rinse and repeat
If they do siege, kill and repeat.

Pretty sure elves send a pansy ambush force that is their siege, only it dosnt count as a siege

I used to have an angry minotaur in a room next door. Set up a sealing system between that room your dept and your fort ala bridge, add some cage traps to recapture the minotaur.

Its much mre fun when you capture a dragon or some other dorfy monstrosity have a floodgate in between them and the *insert megabeast name here*. Of course, I don't use that, I just slaughter the elves in a dwarven atom smasher and when elven christmas comes around, i capture everything (thanks be to cage traps) and toss them into the arena I built, complete with fully armored dwarves and war hounds. If i'm feeling lucky, I'd toss in a FB or something else thats more trouble then its worth catching. If they win, they go free, else, the arena gains blood and the FB is one step closer to being taken care of. Its a win win no matter what

elves only hate when you try selling them wood... you see this is the corner of the market they wish to monopolize.  Like any mobster just don't show off that you're also selling wood and they'll be happy.  Heck you can even bring 100 wooden bins to the trade depot and sell all the stuff inside... just don't sell the bin itself or anything else of wood.  You can even be cutting down all the trees outside while their caravans approach and they really don't care...  just don't try moving into their corner of the market of selling wood.

well to late, i sort of attack them in my pit now i have all there stuff and a few prisoners to feed to the goblins (yes i have them fighting each other) though my arena is finally built (after i finished the castle i was building)
