Dwarven Vegetable
« on: March 18, 2012, 02:16:37 pm »

So one of my dwarves had his skull cracked and his brain bruised, but he lived. He now currently resides as a comatose patient in my hospital. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix him? He has no wounds, he's just unconscious.

Have you tried comforting him with several giant rats?

That depends on your definition of "fix".

You can either give him the best medical treatment you can with nursing to keep him alive, and hope he snaps out of his coma eventually on his own...

Or you can reassign him to a "private ward" with a "private magma pump" for a "private horrible flesh-melting death", which will "fix" the problem of having a comatose dwarf quite nicely.

What does the health screen say? Chances are another diagnose or simply; rest is required.

I think the poor dwarf is bedridden for life, I'm afraid. You could try that thing where you pour water over him repeatedly through the use of grates and screwpumps to build up his toughness, but that injury is bad. The fact that his brain is bruised means his nervous system has been damaged, so he will be unable to walk. I don't know if that means he will be comatose, however. You could even try deconstructing his bed to see if he wakes up.

Good point. Will his were-form be bedridden though?

ALL damage is healed upon were-transformation.  This goes as far as a severed arm growing into a full-fledged clone if they are raised by an evil area.

However, a werecritter will also tend to rip your dwarf completely to shreds rather than just bite your dwarf once and then leave him alone.  Further, werecritters go hostile during that full moon, so it's probably not a good idea to leave them in your fort...

If you could catch a werecreature though and put two guards into the room with your dwarf maybe everyone will be bitten and the werecreature will die resulting in a fixed dwarf and awsome werecreature guards.

I deconstructed his bed and threw him into my (empty) drowning pit. He was rediagnosed for his head injury, which was cleaned only, and a broken finger. He is now out and about hauling things.

Sounds like he was just lazy and wanted attention.  Clearly, that broken skull and concussion wasn't nearly as bad as the blood on the operation room floor implied.  Just kick him out of bed, and I'm sure he'll be fine!

Yes, a fellow invented on the questions board invented it. I can't remember his name. I don't think it works for very bad nervous system injuries though, like a broken spine.
