Demon child???

I wish I'd had the presence of mind to screenshot it, but "Draltha" just gave birth to a baby boy. Draltha is not a dwarf, and upon zooming to the announcement location, he is underneath the magma sea. Was Hellboy just born?

It's unusual that a draltha should be under the magma sea as well, isn't it? They usually live on the first and second underground layers. I don't think there's anything demonic about them. This is fascinating though. A dwarf-child born of such a creature in the deepest depths of the world. Let us hope that the best have conviction, for the worst are surely full of passionate intensity.

Any creature that does not specify a CHILD_NAME (which includes Dralthas) will be described as giving birth to "a boy", "a girl", or "twins"/"triplets". Back in 40d, it was quite common to see this from tamed monkeys.

that still happens with monkeys. Made me laugh in df2010 when a bonobo gave birth to a boy. I was getting some serious doubts about some of the dwarfs....

Nah I don't even know how to mess with raws. Now I have not discovered any but the first cavern, and there are no downward passages. It actually zoomed on unexplored tiles. I can't see it or it's child in the unit list or i'd have more info.

No, it's been happening since forever. Since dralthas are Exotic pets, though, they normally don't breed unless you have a dungeon master (which you don't, since it's impossible and broken), so clearly you've modified your raws.

I've had hippos giving birth, so it's not really that unique. If a herd of horses would stay on the map long enough they'd start giving birth too.

Just to clarify, this is what a draltha is. It's not the name of some demon - it's just a type of creature you find in the caverns.

Right right i looked it up. It is definately below the 3rd cavern layer, however. I'm going to tunnel down there and see what's up.
