Not an ordinary companion...
« on: March 18, 2012, 12:38:19 am »

So, I genned a fresh world for adventuring purposes. Long story short, the humans captured the Dark Taupe Devil Rithé who ran the nearby goblin civ and imprisoned him in the fortress Crewstabs for 200 years (incidentally, the humans' Zebra Fiend lawgiver lived there as well). Apparently Rithé got bored while sitting around the fort and spent his time writing books that, going by the descriptions, were pretty bad, so naturally I rolled up an adventurer and went to Crewstabs to see if I could get a signed copy of The Tall Dark Taupe Devil (I swear I didn't make that name up). Sure enough Rithé was there (an enormous warthog twisted into humanoid form with external ribs), listed as a prisoner. Since I've taken goblin prisoners as companions before, I asked him to Join. And he agreed.

So now I have a demon for a companion (beware its poisonous bite!). Is this unusual? Is he actually going to bite stuff, or is he going to try to use his masterwork copper carving knife, and if so is there any way to make him drop the knife? Is he going to be an unstoppable killing machine, or is he going to go down to the first arrow like the regular companions? What the heck do I even do with him?

I had a fire breathing coyote once.
quite uncommon; yet very overpowered.
Advice: watch out for night time ambushes, demon will be fine; you on the other hand...

Use  DFHack to swap your adventurer to that demon.

Enjoy.

I'm not normally a fan of DFHack, but I... may have to make an exception here.

Firebreathing demons aren't that easy to handle. Unfortunately. But well, I had such a companion too. She was a Tortoise Devil who wrote extremely pulpy books.

I want to tell you they were bad men, cephalo.  I want to tell you that with a better overseer the Fortress never would've gotten so bad someone would get offed in a pointless fisticuffs.
But the sad truth charlie?
It was inevitable.

I think the general note about firebreathing companions or pets was:

"Only if everything is fire pr.."

the rest of the note was burned away, as was most of the writer.
