Indeed. In fact their original culture disappeared a long time ago. In fact, there is no such things as original cultures, or original cultures being "replaced" by new ones unless the whole population is also replaced. Cultures doesn't work that way.

Took the kids to our local St. Patrick's Day parade yesterday. Which included a German oompa band and a taekwondo school. lolwat?


I can sort of understand the handful of Scottish dance schools, Scottish heritage groups and bagpipe bands that were in it, because Scotland and Ireland share a lot of cultural heritage (much of it centered around hating the English), and the Scots don't get their own holiday in the US (unlike the Irish, Germans and Chinese).


I tried to make it a little more respectable for my kids by at least having corned beef, cabbage and potatoes for dinner and over dinner talking about how some of their ancestors came from Ireland (Kennedys, although they were Protestant Kennedys and so most likely Scottish landlords who were settled in Ireland by the English....) and then watching The Secret of Kells with my daughter.
