Well, being all adventuring and whatnot, I eventually got to taking quests from a Lady, and she sent me off into the largest city of her civilization looking for a vampire. I cannot find the little goblin bastard for crap, or even any goblins in this city.

I think she said it was in the catacombs, but I checked the little underground area underneath the castle thing in town.

Any advice on the situation? Am I looking in the wrong places, or am I completely incompetent at finding undead monsters in the middle of bustling cities?

IIRC catacombs are under temples. Dungeons are under keeps , and sewers are under cities.

I have 2 kill vampire quests.

One in a town
One in a hamlet

I checked out the dungeon, he wasn't in there (although 3 other quest type bad guys were \.o./)
And well, the temple has no door, so i cant actually get inside of it, which seems kinda odd to me.

And the one in the hamlet, yea, fuck me if i know how to find him.

This is an ongoing issue for me, every time i get a quest in a town or hamlet i cant do it as i cant seem to find the guys (other than in the dungeon). One exception is that when i was roaming the wilds i found a cave, killed the guy in it and apparently he was a quest, who was meant to be in a hamlet on the other side of the map...... yea.

Anyway, help a brutha out!
