It seems like teleportation is just cloning across a distance and shooting the original.

Because the original can still exist at the same time as the copy they are two separate entities and getting rid of one would be killing him.

I think I'll wait till wormhole teleportation is figured out.

Not teleportation, a concept of teleportation.

I honestly do not see the problem with just having clones everywhere instead of killing the OP ^_^

Two day, three page bump, with something else that I'm not sure has been discussed.

Conservation of momentum.  What happens if Captain Kirk teleports from the Enterprise (Which is orbiting the planet at some 5-10 kips, doesn't really matter for what we're talking about) to the surface, with his teleporter?  Is he still traveling at orbital velocity?  If he is, he's going to cause some problems both for him and the people around him.  Remember, an object traveling at 3 kips will deliver its weight in TNT worth of energy on impact.
