Your last sentance makes zero sense, can you please rephrase?

Oh. You should have read the entire thread.

mcclay does raise a slightly different point. This is coping our atoms, it could be possible to implant things within our structure just by using the teleporter? It could give shadier organizations a new meaning to putting words in your head. As for the soul topic before; thats an interesting way to view it, I've always seen the body as a sort of container for the soul, without it/life it leaves, hence when you teleport your original body and soul remains to be destroyed, if there is a soul per-say.

I would assume at some point we would be able to. Obviously we need two things here. The ability to move information faster the light. The ability to understand and reconstruct a body.

For your thing we would need a third thing. The ability to understand then make changes too and reconstruct a body. Thus... It depends. Do we get the two bio parts before the info part? If not then we can not make changes if this technology comes. At some point we should be able to of course.

To be fair to mcclay, Cript did phrase it strangely.

I believe scientists can do some funky memory reading/adjusting already.

What really bothers me about this entire system is that the new copy would know that the original copy is destroyed.
Why would that bother you? It would only bother the copy if the original would be bothered by it, and if that would be the case they would not have done that.
Not done what?

By the way, The Prestige, released in 2006 is an interesting movie that kinda raises similar questions based on this concept.

Teleportation cannot be used to send raw materials without a true revolution in energy, like fusion reactors x10^1000

Given teleportation that is the sending of material, you have to have the materials on the other side to reassemble. Therefore, you cannot send a human across a teleporter without an equivalent amount of corresponding raw materials to rebuild him out of.

If you send something over teleporter, you therefore assume that the materials on the other side already exist. Better just to use a 3d printer.

Yes? Is this you agreeing with me? Because this is pretty much what I was talking about.

You implied that a teleporter could be used to fill a material need far away. I was asserting that even this limited use is inefficient.

you know, a teleporter with the "buffer" idea I had before could be turned into a sort of real object printer. as long as the materials are on hand and can be broken down for use in the organic and inorganic materials in the product it could be possible to make micro factorys that store an object in that teleporter buffer and makes copies of it. you could teleport/make say a car if you have the equivalent mass of the object and all of it's parts that make it up. 2tons of steel, 20 pounds of plastic, etc....

FTFY; also, we've been doing that for years; now it's just a process of refining the technology to do different things with different materials.

I'm listening to a recorded copy of the song. If I was listening to the song, I would have to be where it was created.
What if the song was digitally composed? What if you were livestreaming the composition?

Are you listening to the original, or a copy? Is there an original? Is it possible for people to listen to it?

If the song was digitally composed, then the first file of each version of it is the original of that version.

By livestreaming it, do you mean while it is being made or after it is finished?

Yes, it's possible for people to listen to it. What kind of question is that?

Is that when it is partially copied into RAM and partially in the CPU registers, when it is fully copied to RAM, when copied onto the hard drive, when automatically defragmented by the OS (in which it gets c+p elsewhere on the HD), when it is copied into RAM again, or when it is partially loaded into the CPU registers as it plays?

Since we're discussing metaphysics, I might as well link the wikipedia article on the subject in question, so ya'll aren't reinventing a pretty basic wheel in the field of philosophy.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

The  difference being that the printer would be on a molecular level. Some day con-men may be printing cars hehehehe.

I'm not even assuming that that stuff happens in my opinions. I'm just using metaphors.

Humans are a lot closer to how a computer works than the other stuff you've used as a metaphor. Especially if your talking about consciousness, your discussing the system the wetware if you wall.

Question:
There are, in fact, organisms that can do into deep stasis. They essentially 'turn off'.

Are they still the same creature when they are reactivated, even though they spent the intervening period dead?

...So? I thought you were asking what I consider originals, not about humans.

Question:

Yes, the are still the same creature. They have the same mind and body. I have never argued against this.
