"Why not?  Who's going to hurt you if you tell me?"

He swallows hard, and from the look on his bedraggled, rough face, he marshalls all his concentration.

"Can't tell you anything, sir."

"Very well."

So which form of torture will you use on him?

Or will you use kindness to get him to talk?

Or how about just kill him, that is actually an option here, leave him to the crows if you want.

Go crazy.

I say we just leave him tied up in the wagon. Give him a bit of water so he doesn't die, but otherwise let him think about his decision to not cooperate with us. Make sure to drag him out when we eat all of our meals and let him watch. See if that loosens his tongue.

One threat is needed without making us seem unkind. An apology. If he can't tell es who, we have no choice but to hand him over to the athorities for what we do know. I mean, he did try to rob AND[/i] kill us. And conspericy can be added becuse we are on a mission for nobles and he did tell us that he was hired to do it.
and do the above after.

What authorities? We're in the middle of the woods and headed in the wrong direction. He's obviously not just a thief. He's working for somebody and was sent to target us specifically. That makes him an extreme liability whether he's with us to perform sabotage, or not with us to report back to his superiors.

Slit his throat with his own dagger. Then turn to Fjord and his men and say "I won't ask you do do anything I wouldn't be willing to do myself."

Eliminates problem and boosts morale in the process.

I say we do this after letting him sweat it out for a while. I'd rather get some info out of him if we can. NRDL, do we have a bit more travel time ahead of us?

Then perhaps Lord Bucket's suggestion is best.

As was I, but our plans needed longer times to make work. We need to get to Lian City quickly, and... what was our main goal again? Been a while since we talked about it. Something with Mercenaries, I believe. Maybe I need to go back and read that part of the thread again.

You need to negotiate with some rowdy and uncooperative mercenaries, in Lian City.  That's it.  Of course, it will probably be more complicated than that, but I'm sure you guys will do well.

The Retcon turn ( see the replies below )

This man's lack of cooperation is...annoying.  Seeing that he's of no more use to you, you take out your knife, and in an upward motion, shove it through the lower jaw up to the middle of the dead man's head.

Turning around, you see Tomas heaving whatever food he had in his stomach behind a bush, while Fjord and his men look at you impassively.  Eventually, Fjord just briefly nods and they all go back to what they were doing.

In an hour, you pack up, and head on the road.

Yeah, I kinda forgot a piece of information, and screwed up a turn, so Lord Bucket made me retcon it.  Hopefully, this version's better.

Is anyone still in this?

I'm still following it...but forgive me if I find this update disappointing. Three people agreed to kill him, and one said to take him with. Instead you went back to a suggestion from a week ago, prior to the last update to use food to get him to talk. And personally I thought the way you wrote it was terribly unconvincing. Fjord already roughed him up enough that he fell unconscious, we left him tied naked to a tree overnight, and then stuck a knife to his throat when we asked questions. Yet through all that he didn't so much as blink and refused to say anything. But now suddenly we eat in front of him and he agrees to talk.

It's unconvincing.

Well, I don't know. We said to kill him but you apparently didn't want us to so you had him suddenly change his mind and talk so we wouldn't. We can't very well kill him now that he has talked...but personally I don't want to bring him along to sabotage us, nor do I want to let him go to report back to this Reginald person that I'll have to go back through the updates to even remember who he is.

We don't care about this side stuff. We want to get on to the main quest from a month ago, that's been ignored for so long that some people have forgotten about it.

Personally, I'd say retcon this last update, kill him and move on. Let's get to Lian already.

If people don't want to do that, my next choice would be to have him magically turncoat and join the party like you obviously want to happen, and then hurry up and get to Lian already.

Well, for one thing, you can still kill him.  And, also, it was the Random Number God that decided his actions, as long as it was inkeeping with his character.

Is that really what you want?  A total retcon.  Sure, I'd do that, if other people vote on it.

Sorry if my writing really was that shoddy, gotta review some facts.

you can still kill him.

Not reasonably. Not now that he's talked. Our character is cold but he's not treacherous. Remember, the original "kil him" suggestion was:

Slit his throat with his own dagger. Then turn to Fjord and his men and say "I won't ask you do do anything I wouldn't be willing to do myself."

Eliminates problem and boosts morale in the process.

That would have solved the problem while simultaneously using it to garner respect and loyalty from our mercanaries. But waiting for him to talk, and then killing him sends totally the wrong message to Fjord and his men. We can't do that.
