So, you probably get this alot buttttt.
« on: March 15, 2012, 11:17:38 am »

Newish to DF:AM

But i have a problem.
I'm using the Lazy Newb Pack 0.34.02 and well, half the staircases in the game i cant get up or down.
I can see the physical representation of the stairs, but no up or down option.

Is  this an error with the game version?
Is there something i can do to fix this?
Is this thread being posted in the wrong place?
Thanks for any help you can give me guys.

Also, Hi
Bye

Try using the < and > keys. Works for me. Welcome to adventure mode BTW.

If itīs stairs, go up and down with < and > while standing on them.
If itīs a ramp, run towards where it leads with the movement keys (i.e. run against the wall while standing on a ramp).

If itīs nether your graphics set might display some other ingame thingy as a stair (try investigating that point with [l]ook - move cursor to stair). Another possibility I could think of is a locked hatch above the stair, when you explore an own fortress where you built stuff like that.

Thanks for the help guys, i wish i tried that out before randomly roaming the lands and getting eaten >.<

Oh well, i dont normally survive more than an hour or so anyway, so i guess its not much of a loss :P
I havent really  gotten around to exploring my own fortress yet, im kinda sucky at the fortress mode atm, but adventure mode seems to be filling a void in gaming ive wanted to for a while.

And thanks, i finally gave into playing this game a few years after my friends first suggested it. Quite glad i did so far (okay, so i haven't slept for 2 days, but other than that).

You should give the fortress mode a try, too. Imo itīs where you find the true strength and complexity of DF. Adventure mode can be really exciting or boring or rewarding or frustrating, it extrememely depends on what happens. After a few hours of boring quests I tried exploring the sewers of a town. Killed tons of serpent men and finally found my first vampire. Before I could kill her she bit me in the foot, damaged the nerves and I had to use a crutch afterwards. I thought "hey, no problem, at least I can now drink her blood and become a vamp myself". Worked out really fine for a while, itīs nice not to have to eat or sleep anymore. Then I was ambushed and they cut off my arms. Not having arms really sucks if you need a crutch. Oh, well...

I've had badass adventurers who could take on armies and survive. That's one out of five tries though. If I survive more than an hour, I'm happy, since usually it's more like 15 minutes before a stray arrow pierces my eye, or a bear gets a lucky shot. If I survive past two hours I usually get to be a hero.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

Crouch, somebody probably is under them.
