Its a mad world...
« on: March 15, 2012, 04:51:35 am »

So, there I am in one fortress. Where I cannot ask to get permission to sleep there. In a City nearby all shops and houses are abandoned and lately a lot of townsfolk is on the tower tops of the fortress in the center of the city. Is that normal?

"Can Kutsmob Pimplehate save the world?" was a legendary bone-bound book. The written portion consists of a 30 page essay entitled "Can Kutsmob Pimplehate save the world? authored by Kutsmob Pimplehate. It concerns the giving up on being a fishery worker of the goblin necromancer Kutsmob Pimplehate in Bristleseductions in 29. The writing has its moments of cleverness.

I should add that the town is almost completely devastated. I have to check the legends about this town.

I think you can sleep in abandoned houses. I think.

Thats no problem. I slept in some of these houses and declared one of them to be my home. There is one meat market without traders which serves as food source.

I just found it strange to see all citizens on the fortress towers and that another fortress was not hostile but didn't gave me shelter. Does that happen often?

This seems pretty common in this release; there are a lot of ways for people to get killed in worldgen.

Yes, it's kinda spooky/cool the first time your adventurer rolls into a town, expecting it to be bustling and busy, only to find it deserted and ruined. Lovely little effect of worldgen.

Yeah, I found a town like that. I think all the townsfolk move to the keep after enough of them get killed. Amusingly, the thing that was killing them was a vampire, who of course was now in the keep with them.

Sounds like a cheap horror flick.

I've got a world here where just about every city is in ruins as described. One of them really was devoid of all life besides the few people in the keep, but most have at least a couple surviving shops and their managers outside the keep. The best shape I've seen one in had about 30% of the structures still inhabited. Just left that town now looking for night creatures.

I get this a lot. 1 in 3 worlds I gen is full of dead towns, or never even gets to the point where towns are made at all. Usually the culprit is a vampire of some type, or a neighboring goblin civ wiping all the humans out.

I think I had one where a necro tower killed everything in the vicinity, but I may be wrong.

I have town that's nearly 100% occupied shops, but that definitely seems to be the exception rather than the rule. The odd thing is there seem to be more elves and goblins living there than humans.

Yes, this is completely normal.

See bug reports: Towns deserted when Legends lists population in thousands.
Almost no wood, stone, or metal-based shops exist, and their have no stock.

Only goblin-based towns work properly, because goblins don't starve and don't die of old age - the problem is that when the original owner of a building dies, nobody ever reclaims it.

If there are people still alive, they live on the parapets of the castle, instead, since they are homeless, since the town can't expand without more people, no shops are reclaimed, and they have nowhere else to go.
