Someone else came up with a monthly clock a few weeks ago based on using a vampire in a squad set to defend a different burrow every month. Each burrow would be on a different pressure plate.

Either system ought to work (although I've never gotten around to testing the werebeast setup)-- the werebeast setup is significantly smaller and easier, though.

Wait for one to show up, send in the military, wait for one to get bitten, then burrow that dwarf somewhere secure.
