I'm guessing no invite for me, then? I did PM. I'll be keeping an eye on this regardless if so, hope it works out and goes public at some point.

Interesting! I went and made a little chapter to get a feel for the site (haven't gotten to the titular pickle yet, my writing style tends to result in wildly unpredictable deviations from my initial concept,) and had a couple thoughts on bugs and potential improvements.

-Apparently chapters have a limit on how many characters they take, as my first chapter lost like 2/3 of what was there. *copies chapter to txt file pending resolution* I mentioned it under the bugtracker chapter.

-There's a spot on the main page for popular and trending stories, but it'd be cool if there was a spot for Most Recent stories on the homepage.

-Personally, I'd like it if you could post a short description of your story at the root story level, where it shows all the subsequent chapters. That way you don't need to use a chapter just to provide a summary of your work, or to provide more detailed instructions for potential collaborators (example: "Hey guys this story is gonna be the same half hour told over and over, told from different perspectives each chapter")

-I found myself wanting to resize the text input box while writing my chapter, and the ability to preview would be nice. Preview lets me see how it'll look when others see it (i.e without Firefox's red squiggles under words I made up) and it gives me a working copy to refer back to while I make edits, so I can read a bit and edit it, then read the next bit and edit that, etc.

-If feasible, it'd be cool if there was an email notification whenever somebody adds to and/or comments on your story (or stories you are interested in.) Or at least a section on the site itself that tracks such activity.

All in all, looks fun!

Forgot to say - there was something similar to this thought up on the MSPA forums... quite a lot of time ago, but just as a choose-your-own-adventure sort of thing. I suppose you could something similar with this, though.

This could use some sort of 'story tree', that would show the different branches and divergences as a clear map, though I assume that sort of thing could be tricky to actually create.

Great ideas, monks! A couple of those were already in the pipe - blurbs for stories, most recent, preview (though that will probably after we get the style stuff in when it becomes more important), and a message and notification system.

Resizing the text box is a great idea, I'll look into it. We don't have any javascript yet, but I'll add that to the list of features there. A tracking page just to track activity on our stories is a great idea. And had no idea there was a character limit - I'll see if I can figure out why that's happening.

Thanks much!

Is it possible to make a chapter the child of several parent chapters?

Yes, technically. We haven't quite figured out how the UI will work for that yet, but the ability is built into the system to allow it.

I can confirm that this site does work on a DSi.

That will be all.

First impressions- That background is a little bit cluttered with the bits of text and provides a weird contrast. I'd try to go with solid cool colors or maybe a mildy transparent white overlay on it. That character limit bug should probably be dealt with first, for functionality's sake. At least so it looks more like a mock up and less alpha-ish.

Okay, after a short time of trying it...

HTML capabilities would be great! BBcode would work too.
Also, it seems that pressing enter doesn't record it as an enter.

I'm almost done with an improved control scheme for Stories, hopefully be live tonight or tomorrow. Those who've hit the site today may have noticed the new look on the "story" page - this will be the look for the chapter page soon as well. Not great, but an improvement. Mostly a side effect of knocking backend stuff off, but hopefully y'all will consider the new interface a bit easier to use.

Just pushed the changes. Came in just before the deadline, heh - probably not at all in your country though.

Regardless, the new code is up! Please check out the new Story and Chapter management and let me know what y'all think.

It would be nice if I could search for IDs, like this board's PM system - you type in part of a name and suggestions pop up.

Also, a search function is needed. :3

The 'write new chapter' function seems like it would automatically link the new one you just write to the chapter you clicked it from, but it doesn't. :(

Hmm... it SHOULD. That's a bug, must have been introduced by the new logic I added in. Seems like a pretty important one to fix. :P
Please add to the bugtracker.

Search functionality is still a ways down the road, especially with suggestions.

Other things I need to do:
Let people share ownership of canons.
Figure out exactly how de-linking will work. Right now you simply can't...

Basically - can I remove children from my chapter? Wouldn't that mess with other people's stories if they include it? Can I remove parents? Hmmm....
