Did I do something wrong..?

For some reason my world seems to be completely populated by Forgotten Beasts. All books, (or at least most of them) have bindings made out of parts of forgotten beasts, or their extract/breath. All jobs, (normally done by the sentient races) have been replaced with Forgotten beasts. What the heck happened to my world?

That sounds like a case of duplicated raws to me.  Have you done any modding or installed any mods?

I'm not sure... I've had this version of the game for quite a while. But while venturing into the world as an adventurer, I've discovered that I can actually *play* as one of the forgotten beasts. Armok has certainly blessed me today.

Ack, the game crashes whenever I try and start an adventure with one. I'll try an outsider next.

Play as forgotten beast = Duped Raws
It probobaly replaced humans with forgotten beasts or something.

Okay, so adventure mode doesn't work, but fortress mode sure does. I created a fortress beside a npc-controlled dwarven fortress. When the dwarves arrived, I found several injured forgotten beast peasants, (Which, strangely, were on my side) a tame nautilus woman, and a cat. This will be fun...

It didn't just replace humans with forgotten beasts, it replaced every race with the evil things! It also made it so animal people could be tamed.

As I recently posted in a similar thread: Other games crash when thier files are broken. DF makes batshit crazy worlds of wagons made of meat, burning insect chitin hair and civilizations run by weasels that farm beetles for thier brains. Ones stable enough for you to adventure or embark are rare. Legends mode might make fun reading.
