Adventurer Necromancer/vampire immigrates to fort -- naked
« on: March 14, 2012, 10:47:29 am »

I played as an adventurer and got 500 kills, became a vampire and necromancer before retiring to start a new fort. The adventurer immigrated to my fortress, raised every dead body part in my fort which immediately wiped out 180 dwarves. Right now my fort is down to my former adventurer, my vampire mayor (i knew keeping him alive would come in handy), and 370 undead body parts roaming the fortress.

The weirdest thing is that when my adventurer retired he had a full kit of adamantine armor. when he showed up he had no armor, no clothing, and about 50 dingo/forgotten beast amulets and bracelets.

I figure that I can run my fortress with just these two guys to build up my adventurer in fortress skills as well.

Adventurers that have retired can migrate to your fort?

Well anyways if you prepare a "preperation area" for you migrants aka small section of your fort you can seal up where in the only water source is a vampire blood spiked well you could have a fort of vampire dwarves completely protected by hordes of the undead. And if you need a militia you have an epic adventurer to captain it (with all those zombies though..... murder some more sieges and then breach HFS with a zombie army?)

You've created your own Dark Tower.  This is a feature.

I wonder, if you unretire him, will you start in the fortress?

I backed up the save and abandoned the fort to see where I would start. I started in a human town near the fort with adamantine strands in my hand. The dwarf was hauling some for cloth making at the time.

I had breached HFS before the adventurer showed up and was handling the hordes of demons pretty well as I had established a nice funnel system so they had to go straight to my wiating military and couldn't really bother the civilians. Once the adventurer showed up the undead took the place of the military and are sitting in the same spot and will kill any demon that comes near. The undead also killed a forgotten beast.

unfortunately, I can't really repopulate my fortress. I had some migrants arrive, despite the danger, but they were slaughter by the undead before they reached the gates.

If not for that problem I would throw my other vampire down a well to infect any new migrants and start a dark Mountain home.

This is pretty amazing.

Thought I saw another thread years ago about a 40d fort where a former adventurer came by, but instead of migrating, killed about a dozen dwarves, exploding them with the force of the blow, and zipped across the map like a [SPEED:0] dwarf, only to leave the site.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

Too bad you can't retire another adventurer that's female and see if the vampires will breed lol

It's still doable, you just can't expect migrants to trek across the map through hordes of zombies to reach your gates safely. Build them entrances that can be sealed, spread around the edges of the map (or as close to the edge as you can dig, anyway), so you can immediately get them safely underground. Have these entrances lead to a secure processing area, cut off from both the outside and the rest of your fortress, where you can vampirize them with a tainted well before sending them to the fortress itself.

This is actually what I do for normal forts in evil biomes to get migrants and traders past the clouds/zombies, just that my processing area has the opposite purpose, separating out vampires so the healthy migrants can join the rest of the fortress.

Question; did you raid an abandoned fort to get that adamantine? If not, how did you get it?

I got the adamantine from another abandoned fort.
