40 sets of adamantine armor... how do i
« on: March 14, 2012, 12:58:08 am »

i have a fort with an abundance of adamantine, i have 40 set of armor with sheild and battles axes plus a whole bunch more waiting to be made.

i recently decided i would make a copy of the save and abandon the fortress so i could scavenge a nice set of adamantine in adventure mode.

only problem is that when i reached the fort in adventure mode, not 1 piece of adamantine was left to scavenge.

is there any way to keep my treasure safe from "raiders" till my adventurerer arrives?

thanks for any help yall can give

look around. it was probably scattered. look outside, and armok help you if you breached the caverns.

p.s. just call it cotton candy.  ;)

i did breach the caverns, but those are walled up so i won't be getting in there.

my fort was also pretty simple and i destroyed almost everything other than the "candy" armor sets before i abandonned to make the search easier.

you think every last piece somehow got into the caverns?

cuz there wasn't one piece to be found in the entire fort

One way to make the search easier, is to store the armor/weapons in lead bins. Lead bins are so heavy that there will be less scattering when you abandon the fortress.

This morning I found myself looking at the numberplates of the cars on my drive in to work and seeing them as tileset characters in ASCII... a silver Renault I was behind had an interesting scene of a Human wrestling a Minotaur near a bin.

Aye, check bins.

And things cant's disappear from abadonded fort (others that food and clothes). Your candies are there, you just have search more. They can be also outside or any part of your fort.

Another option is to leave the items in the workshop that made them. Only items that were in a stockpile experience scattering when a fort is abandoned.

Your military might have been wearing it.  Make sure that is not the case

If that's true then a simple exploit would be to remove every stockpile right before you abandon.

Also, check armor stands and weapon racks...

Any item that is located in a building is safe from scattering.  That is, if you can press "t" and see it.  Unstockpiled or stockpiled items that are loose will scatter.

What if you wall them in somewhere? Does pathfinding not matter ? (Then again I expect you cant tear down walls in adveture mode can you?)

Pathfinding doesn't matter in my experience.  I did a series of tests putting dogs and cages, and dogs in cages, into small sections.  These were above-ground 3x3 areas with 1x1 walkable area.  Closed walls, open walls, walls with ramps/stairs, and closed walls with a roof all acted identically - the dog died and the cage and corpse were moved elsewhere.  Because this was a 2x2 embark I could find the items easily.  I didn't test with underground chambers, but I doubt it would act any differently.

If you put items in a lead bin inside a closed off wall, they'd remain, but only because the "heavy things don't scatter" takes priority.
