Modify the combat announcement text
« on: March 13, 2012, 07:30:55 pm »

Just like the speech files, let us modify the combat text! When a part "Sails off in an arc" that's all fine and good, but why can't it be "brutally severed" or "hacked away from the [ENTITY:WHATEVER]'s body"? Personally I'd love this feature, what do you guys think?

For that matter, severed body parts don't "sail off in an arc". Like all projectiles, their paths are parabolas.

A parabola is an arc. An arc is loosely defined as anything bow-shaped.

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

I thought that can be done. I saw in Masterwork Mod many modded combat texts.

i agree since not all body parts should go flying when the are cut off. if the elf is just standing there and you just go over and cut his leg off, the leg should go flying.
now if the elf kicked you and then you counter-attacked and cut the leg off then the leg would go flying could is is still moving.

This modification holds no practical significance and is cosmetic at best.

I would, however, like to see the combat reports (re)include the 'X has been struck down' message. If only to have the confirmations that that troll your militia was wailing on is actually dead, and not running off to regenerate his heavy bruising.
