The New Economy: Forum game
« on: March 13, 2012, 01:36:01 pm »

So this is another attemp at creating a game capable of running itself whitout G.M. intervention. It is based on ... Experimental economy thread.

Plot and setting

Here and now. You 've all decide to take part in a social experiment. People will be dropped in a undevelopped area and provided with fund and tools to make themselves a living. The area has plenty of usefull resources, a river and has an overall temperate climate, although that may vary due to the fact that's in a mountainous area. Participants are left to their own devising, and while they can import items, prices are rather high.( Part of the experiment). There's no real governement in place, nor any kind of infrastructure.

Rules
- Players take care of their own actions and cheets. Actions that require GM intervention should be bolded.( And only actions that require G.M. intervention)
- No fighting. Stealing and such is fine, but no rampages whitout reason
- G.M. postes time updates at regular intervals. 1 turn= 1 month

Joining
You can join as the owner of one of the following

Industry: All industries start with 10.000 dollars. Industries hire workers which produce goods for them. 1 worker produces 1 resource per tech level per week. Upgrading the tech level of your factory costs 5000, then 10000, then 20.000 then 30.000 (you get the point.)
Spoiler: Primary industry (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Secundary Industry (click to show/hide)

Spoiler:  Tertiary industry (click to show/hide)
Families:
These start with 2.000. They need to buy products, ak food and others to stay alive. 1 product will last a family of 5 people a week. Every family uses 1 power

Utilies

Hope I didn't forget anything.

The reason I hesitate to join is that a completely forum-contained economy with no 'NPC' industries is bound to fail :/ Mainly because no money at all is created anew.

EDIT : Can we export products?

Yes, you can export products. Also, I will throw in NPC industries and families.

Oookay, tentative signing up.

I want to be called Bynari Retail.
I am a tertiary industry.
I see Bynari Retail to be a Costco-like retail store - buying in mass and selling in mass at a slightly cheaper price.

I am hiring!
Accountant, Manager, Clerks, Floor Worker (hauls products).

I wish to have business partners!
Two primary, one secondary, and one bank (to make some credit plan with less interest).

I want my company value evaluated!

Current money : $10.000

You sell cheaper then you buy. How are you going to turn a profit.

Turns: Month

Factories:
4*amount of workers*tech level resources produced
1 PW unit consumed per 2 resources produced, rounded down.

Families:
1 PW used
4 products used per 5 people

Powerplants:
20 power produced per techlevel
        -Resource based
-4 primary resources used per techlevel
              -1 Operator per techlevel
        -Nonresourcebased
              -No resources needed
              -4 operators per tech level

I will throw in mild random events to make the game interesting, and will fill in missing essential spots with NPC's.

...How? Don't you see Costco? o_o

It goes like this:

Normal route:

Factory sells 1,000,000 goods at $1,000,000 the lot. You cannot never buy less than 1,000,000 at a time.

Distributor(middleman) buys 1,000,000 at $1 each from the factory and sells 1,000 at a time, $1,500 the lot.

Retailer buys from distributor 1000 goods, $1.5/good. It then sells one good at a time to customers. The customers pay $2.5/good.

COSTCO route:

Factory sells 1,000,000 goods at $1,000,000 the lot.

COSTCO buys them all at $1,000,000 and sells them at $2.0 / good to the normal customers. They instead pay membership fees. COSTCO also attempts to cut down on fees by contracting with credit card companies, or by cash.

It is very profitable. :-\ You get to undercut the competitors' prices for the cost of making larger warehouses.

I simply misunderstood you. So you're buying in large amounts and selling cheaper then your concurrents by cutting out the middle man.
Also , I don't think Costco excists here.

You will be employing other forumgoers and NPC's so it depends on them.

So... @King - If you are willing to use your money and get a tech level of say... 5, I'll hire you for ... Wait, wait one moment.

Outside world : A single product is $200. Raw materials are $50. That means I just need to buy raw materials en masse and process them, resell them and !!PROFIT!!?

Uh... I can't actually grasp what I should price things at.

@werty
Until I grasp our new economy, it's a tentative offer :P

....Me too.

I think workers (that's you!) have a stat called 'tech level' that measures your productiveness. So, I'm saying if you tell our GM to make you tech level 5 and subtract the right amount of money to pay for it, I'll hire ya! That is, if you want to :/
