I see no problem with this.
Well, I do. Especially considering just how large said playerbase is. I looked too, and it's not just a digital operation- it requires real-world effort too, from what I can tell. Mercenaries might work, yes, but I ask you, why do you think it's so dangerous?

EDIT: Also, keep in mind that several engineers went insane just trying to figure out how the item shop happened. That should give us an idea what we're dealing with here.

Just a note guys, but did you note the constant bit sized patches. It's strange, because the GGC's team is on vacation, so It can't be them.

Oh, that? Yeah, it's me. I found a loophole in the code, making the shop vulnerable without frying the brains of the players. I've gotta send it literally bit-by-bit for the shop not to notice it, though. Turns out the shop is a benevolent virus: There's another shop in the game that sells better items cheaper, but it was overwritten by the new shop when someone hijacked the code. GGC never actually found it, because it was buried in a text document which linked to a download for a .html, which was a remote source supplying code to the game without the devs noticing. A couple more patches, and the shop will be ready for killing.

Guys, GGC has announced the new type of vehicular-only servers, in colonial, modern and sci-fi variants.
It means that they're going to severely nerf vehicles in normal servers.

I only fiddled around in the sci-fi one so far, and it's really, really fun!
But getting enough ammo for the Hydrogen Flamethrower turret (with Lightspeed Exhaust attachment - higher ammo consumption for extra knockback power) is a pain the d!ck. Luckily I found a hydrogen harvesting plant on Aerius-V, so that's not a big problem.

Now the REAL problem is efficiently storing that much ammo. (flamethrower turrets burn through it really quickly) I have a Superconductor Supercompressor Tank mounted on my MCV (Modular Combat Vehicle), as well as a few Plasma Subguns to compensate for lack of range (so I have to use hover fans to get this thing anywhere).

I think you mean "cock". Personally, I prefer turkeys.

In other news, the shop is vulnerable. Meet me at sector 4-ZZ at the planet Skuil Beta with as many Godbuster missiles as you can find. Make sure that you get the largest ship in the game and load it ENTIRELY with Godcluster launchers. Don't bother with thrusters or armor. If this works, nothing will live long enough to attack you. We need at least 500 players, so it shouldn't be too hard to get everyone together, but the more, the better. At PRECISELY 8:30 Z.M. Igynpadca Particular Time, fire every missile (They all need to be bound to one key using the Megabind upgrade). At this point, I will fire a hacked weapon known as a "Shopkeeper" in order to capture the shop in a Shopéball once it's weakened.
LET'S DO THIS!!!

Alright, so far so good. Given Doomblade's, my, and some other guy's ships, we're up to 498. C'mon guys, get over here! There a Mk. III Skorpion teleporter here at sectors 3-A, 6-BG, and 9-ZZ, if you need it.

I've don't use Godbuster missiles, but I do have the magic-based equivalent: Godslayer spells. I have two dozen ubermancers en-route in the finest ships my civ can make, and they'll arrive in time to finish the lengthy charge-up and launch at the same time as the missiles.

Mechs have arrived. Start up your charging and tell me. I'll cast a Time Warp in order to speed things up.

EDIT: 8:00 Z.M. Specific! We'll be starting the barrage soon.

Hue hue, Just finished hollowing out my entire planet into A A death cannon, moving in, Get otu of the way of the giant moving planet that looks normal, it will ram.

Loved the asteroids, gave it tons of armor, not even planet destruction level spells or weapons can level it.

Ignore the cloaked scavenger bots, btw. Just recording all the things with their automated camera's.

Also, cleaning up.
