Filling a pond

How do you make your dwarf fill a pond?

I designated a pit/pond, but I can't find where to specify it's a pond and not a pit. I got bucket, water access and lazy dorf around.

O I saw it... when you hit P there is another option to set the pit to a pond... Ty

Ok now I filled a small pond I made inside my fortress to eventually make a well out of it... All the water is stagnant, why? Can blood contaminate the well?
