Arcane Steel - Turn 3 - French acting and less trouble

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The cattle was already found in the safety of barns, all of the plowing tools had been stored and the people hid from the incoming rain as the wind blowing from the east confirmed their predictions. Creaking could be heard as the most fragile buildings' wood structures friction created a loud noise. The settlement's few and narrow streets got less busy by the time and while the peasants minded their simple business, our heroes still engaged in a dangerous battle of wits, conflicting languages and the aftereffects of opiates.

Davie tried to fix the heavy damage inflicted by the impolite mademoiselle by means of admonishing her, [1+1=2] But the villagers were not too impressed by Davie's attempts at diplomacy. Miss Adrienne was in grave danger of starting yet another war between Prussia and France, either she killed or got herself killed by those peasants. Which would not be much of a suprise to anyone living then, seeing as those wars had almost turned into a routine. On the bright side, they seemed to be considering the proposition of leaving her at least half alive.

Adrienne, on the other side, pretended to act contrite upon receiving Davie's warnings, as if she was feeling deeply sorry. [5] She proved herself to be an excellent actress, moving her body with calculated precision and swaying her newfound audience, ultimately causing the furious peasants to quickly calm down, each one believing every single piece of the masterfully executed act. They lowered their weapons and a serene atmosphere fell upon the scene. [4-1] Even lowering her head and whispering to her horse did not get much attention from the crowd.

The dragoon tried to employ gesturing to drive his point home... [4] ...Actually managing to get it right this time. One of the many men in the formerly angry mob stepped forward and used gestures to indicate that the bandits should not be far from there, probably some hours if riding fast horses; the former mercenaries would also hold their march because of the rain, and if the squad left now they had good chances of finding the marauders setting up their camp.

The african shaman, not understanding exactly what was going on, dismounted and tried to drag the wasted peasant [3+1], managing to pull the stunned man as silently as a cat. [6] The young man seemed pretty talkative and used both his voice and gestures to tell him the raiders were composed mostly of light footmen with simple weaponry, but they were subdivided in various groups, finding strength both in numbers and in their most experienced personnel (although the most complex parts of the man's speech were only comprehensible to Davie). The man then proceeded to faint, not before throwing up at Ktimbi's feet.

April attempted to stop Ktimbi, [4] but it was a little bit too late, as he had already pulled the prussian and extracted as much information as he could before the peasant decided to vomit and sleep afterwards.

The party is taken by surprise as one of the bodyguards from Wilhelmina's family suddenly appears near the crowd, riding to her without causing too much fuss and exchanging some words with the young wizard. Shortly thereafter, both leave in a hurry at full speed towards the direction where the group came from. It seemed important.

Adrienne and Davie take some time to flirt. Rawr. A possible S&M romance with the prussian noble and the frank knight slapping each other is not entirely discarded either.

>The angry peasants are no longer angry. Also, for the sake of explaining, I did not include acting into "social" as Adrienne was not being herself nor she was talking. Also, when conflicting party actions occur and both end up with the same number, the one that was supposed to happen first succeeds. And...I also temporarily withdrew NUKE9.13, as he has not answered any of my PMs and his last post is also some days old, although his profile shows recent activity (by that I mean getting online). Which means that I would really like to see a WIZARD in that waitlist.

Falion rubbed his chin in thought, "Basically, the bandits are unprepared if we march out now. They do not know where exactly the camp is, though they would obviously leave marks so tracking in the rain is our best bet if we all choose to go." He turned to the direction in which they came, walking up and re-mounting Ileid while stowing away his shield. "Sad to see Wilhelmina leave for a while, I hope anything that troubles her isn't much that she can't handle."

"Is everyone alright with heading out right now? If they're setting up camp, which is what I discerned from body language, then we could easily take them unawares. It also seems that they depend on a hierarchy of power and multitude. We may have the advantage of surprise."

Adrienne nodded, to Falion dropping both her false contriteness and her haughty noble acts.

"Oui, Monsieur Fallion.

...Best to ride out and find them before they have a chance to set up an ambush for us on the road. They will not be expecting significant resistance. Scatter them now, and the locals will gleefully hunt down the rest out of bloody minded vengeance."

"Yes, we should leave now, before madam Adrienne starts another war between our two countries. As much as I like a good fight, I don't think the mothers on either side will."

Adrienne turned Davie and spoke, a cheerful bloodlust in her voice.

"War is so messy when you involve incompetents. I too, would prefer the peasants stay home with their mothers.

Battles used to be more polite, you know. A spot of killing, one side relents with honor-then both sides singing and feasting, a keg of beer and a warm bed afterwards, hopefully shared with another.

Ah, those were the good old days."

Action: Lead the attack toward the bandit camp!

Go to the camp. Make sure Adrienne doesn't charge into the camp like an idiot.

Ktimbi stared at Wilhemina's figure disappearing into the distance, incredulous that it is actually that easy to escape this servitude.  Still, his ancestors must be appeased. Ktimbi mounts and follows.

Falion agrees, and takes the rear of the march. Following by Ktimbi's side.

'I wonder how my brother is feeling, he's been silent for mostly the whole time we've been together. Maybe it is only by body language that we may speak, or is he withholding something?' he said, looking at Ktimbi. Nonetheless, they were bonded by the intangible hold of fate, he wouldn't let him come to harm without his own body in the way. Not if his life had anything to say for it.

Adrienne hadn't really even noticed Ktimbi until Falion mentioned him. He was, quite literally, invisible to her. Something alien and incomprehensible. She didn't really know what to think of him.

"...Well, he probably doesn't speak any proper languages.

He's a Etranger, after all. I would hardly expect him to have the benefits of our advanced civilization."

She couldn't quite bring herself to call him a 'Savage'-she was plenty savage herself, when it came to fighting and...other things.

Adrienne looked back from her horse, trying to meet his eyes, frowning slightly.

Adrienne rubbed her jaw thoughtfully.

"Then, perhaps he is a Mercenary, of some sort.

If not for Gold, why would he come here?"

"We can bother with that later on, after our mission is completed. Whatever goal he has, is his to hold. After our mission."

His friends spoke true, maybe he should've spent time bonding with him more. Ktimbi was a mysterious fellow, younger than them all, but held a certain power that he knew was protecting him.

Very intriguing fellow.

Arcane Steel - Turn 4 - The Road

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The first signs of rain started to appear in the form of dark clouds and lightning criss-crossing the skies as the squad prepared to leave the small village. The peasants had lost much of their previous anger, and now most of the formerly angry mob simply waved good-bye. Even some children that had been ordered to stay inside the houses slipped out of their hiding to watch as the party left the town, riding their steeds and donning fine armor and clothing. Surely it had not been an easygoing meeting, but the memory of the visitors would remain etched into the minds of the simple villagers for as long as they could hold onto it, for it brought hope for those which had been suffering.

And so the squad left the small settlement, managing to avoid lighting a fuse for another war by themselves (Adrienne). The inhabitants of that settlement, as almost anyone out of the great knight-magi families, were oblivious to the existence of magic, and viewed the Maximilian family under a favorable light, since most of the local wizard families were masterful puppeteers; they helped the common people, managing to amass power while weakening the power of the Holy Church in the process. Those were harsh times as always for the poor, and the higher echelons of the Catholic Church were either focusing on gathering large extensions of land or sending witch-hunters to stalk and kill the occasional "heretic" or wizard.

The party hit the dirt road, hoping to use the knowledge gathered with the local folk to enact a surprise attack on the unsuspecting marauders. The wind blew stronger, making leaves, cloth and hair flutter as the heterogeneous bunch followed the path towards the supposed location of the bandits. With a few hours of travel they had already found some marks of the recent pillaging; burnt houses and corpses, dead cattle and abandoned villages.

As they moved further, small groups of trees by the sides of the road became a common sight, slightly hindering their vision of the party as the sky turned cloudy. [1+1(villagers' information)] Unfortunately their chance at a perfect surprise attack is disrupted when they make a turn, finding [5] bandit footmen right by the fork in the road acting as sentinels for the remaining maurauders, which were setting up camp a couple minutes away.

The encounter was too sudden, the watchers know they are not fast enough to outrun horses and as such, three of them unsheath their longswords, one draws his crossbow and the last runs out of the road and towards the nearby trees, in the direction of the bandit camp.
