Do we start with any building materials? If so, how much?

You start with none, but I just made it so mines are now 0 cost, but mines will need further materials to dig deeper.

I have posted my turn, can you give it a look to se what if I have done something wrong?

I could of done that if you posted it here first, like I asked.

You can explore yourself, but if your not in town  you won't be able to influence anyone.

I was gonna say something about the letter, but I assume it's just a guy qouting you, it'll take awhile for him to arrive and deliver the messages, he'll be back next month.

edit- just realized, you haven't prospected the stone near you yet, there's a chance that it's salt, and thus not building material.

Haha, if I get salt I am kind of dead, since I got no other way of getting building material.

Well salt + meat industry would feed your people and you'd be able to trade for wood.

Well, I wont be able to trade everything, I am already short on tradeable resources, and food is not very exotic. But well, we will see what happens.

Actually, will lumbering cut down all the trees in 15.11? Also, how much influence do these actions cost?

Lumbering will cut down the trees but they'll be back at the start of the next month.  Exploring cost 1 influence no matter the distance, but you can't change their destination until they return.  Also if they travel through lands without food they'll probably die if they aren't carrying preserved stuff.

Just copy what Evil did, And one of your guys don't have orders, so they'll be doing whatever the hell I feel like them doing, cause having complete control over your people is boooring.
