Caught my first vampire!
« on: March 12, 2012, 07:48:41 pm »

As the title suggests I recently uncovered a nest of vampires in my fort. I have three of them consigned to jail right now. I've locked off the wing they're in so I have them contained. I can do anything with them so... any suggestions? I was all for arming them sparsly and then letting them take on as many invaders as they can.

Don't kill them!
Draft them into a new squad, give them your best weapons and armor and set them to train around the year.
Then, when a siege goes south, unleash vampire super-soldiers!

Yup. Super-soldiers all around. Vampires are too easy to weaponize... :P

Presumably, they are lining up to dump them into the baby furnaces.

If I wanted super soldiers I wouldn't play Dwarf Fortress. Theres a reason I continue to use the drunken, shambolic morons and its not for their efficiency.

Have you not played 40d? Lot's of super-soldierness in that version, you know. Dwarf super-soldiers. A certain dwarf by the name of  Holistic Detective comes to mind. :)

Holistic Detective was less a super soldier and more a god reborn wearing artifact adamantine armour. Whereas my dwarfs make do with wood and copper.

Fair enough. I assume a lot of it really had to do with the armor though, to be honest...

It played a big role but never forget her weapon was a bag not an axe or anything. That still takes some power.

On topic I think i've decided to use my vampire as a sole warrior against an entire invasion. He shall be given full steel armour and allowed to die honourably in battle against the next batch of goblins (or with any luck elves as I have been trying to start a war with them).

Well, I just got a vampire whilst playing the DF Masterwork mod. I see no reason to open another thread for this and since this does seem to concern first vampire encounters, I'll leave mine here.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now, if I didn't detect vampires by waiting until my mastiffs tear them to pieces, I'd propably try to weaponize them, too. Alas, maybe I'm luckier in a few years down the fort.

Edit:
Screw a few years down the fort. Pyromancers rolled in and saw that my fortress was festering with post-vampire epidemics, so they decided to purge it with fire.

Holy schist, this thread is mica me sick.
DF Players never truly leave.  They just abandon the fortress for a few years and then reclaim.

Mine killed twice before I managed to track him down. My Sheriff gets full credit for the job.
