Animals found dead
« on: March 12, 2012, 07:05:08 pm »

So far I've had five animals discovered dead in various places in my fort. Four of them were giant bugs I bought off the elves, one was a cat. The only thing I can think of is that they died of old age when no one was around. Looking at the raws, it appears giant bugs don't live any loner than their normal counterparts. As for the cat, he was a pet of a recent migrant, maybe he was just old? Anyone else found animals dead for mysterious reasons in their fort?

If the insects were grazers, well... THARS YER PROBLEM.

Or you have a ninja infestation.

Yeah... Were those bugs mosquitoes or other blood-suckers by any chance? I was confused when they started dropping out of the sky to splatter over my dining hall, until I realised they hadn't had a drop of the red stuff since I bought stole them off the elves. :P
As for the cat, I've no idea... Could've been old, if there are no combat logs, or it could've been killed by a hooved animal on its way to pasture/tanturming dwarf/horrible airbourne virus that is about to decimate your fort.

Vermin aren't grazers, are they? Giant versions still use the vermin raws and don't add the grazer tag. They also don't change the aging. So, for instance, my Giant Thrips had a lifespan of one year. Heh, after the first bugs died, I should have known better than to buy more. Stupid elves. Cat was probably just old. My question is, has anyone else seen this? Does the game no longer announce when animals have died of old age if no one sees them?

I had a giant grasshopper or something of that ilk that I boughtfrom the elves die quickly, without apparent violence, so I'm inclined to believe that the giant vermin have a ridiculously short life span.
