How to kill a prone enemy?
« on: March 12, 2012, 02:41:14 pm »

So I've been playing a jelly assassin adventurer (my weird nickname for sneaky archers), and have had problems finishing prone enemies. I can execute them with a bash to the head if they're unconscious, but just being prone (like, I shot them in the foot) leads to all my arrows missing them, even when I lie down myself. Is there any effective way to kill them without close range combat?

...No. Beyond throwing lots of crap at them.

I was afraid of that.

One more quick question- is there any way to get the water from wells out? (and not just drink it from the well) I dislike drinking the blood spatters on my clothes to avoid dehydration while carefully avoiding vampire blood stains.

You can store the water from a well if you have a waterskin or flask.  Stand next to a well or other source of water.  Press 'I', select your waterskin, and then fill it from the water source.

You can use the "u" key to interact with an item of furniture or mechanism.  You stand next to the well and use it to lower and raise the bucket.  Once you've done that there'll be water available for drinking/filling waterskins in the bucket.  There's only 10 units in the bucket, so if you need to fill a lot of things just lower and raise it again.

I love how it's disgusting to drink from stagnant water but there are no problems with drinking the blood spatters of a bandit chief on your hat.

Yeah, I also use the "jump in stagnant pool, suck water out of clothes" trick to avoid using my waterskin or flask when I don't have to.

I prefer rolling around in corpses, or throwing corpses everywhere to make infinite blood puddles. So fun!

I forgot about the blood trail from corpses! So I guess this means bird corpse > waterskin?

Effective way? No.
I noticed that being stealthed greatly reduce your chance to hit an enemy. And nearly no chance to hit prone target. But! You can deactivate stealth (warning! it risky!) and shoot prone target.
Don't try this against several enemies. No guarantees for this tactic versus marksman-targets.
If you are trying to shoot melee-fighter opponent, at some point he'll give up fighting with you and you can safely chase + shoot him (just don't go in melee range).

I haven't actually fought un-stealthed except for a reptile man vampire which I brutally dissected with a copper and silver sword. Maybe that's why I only have effective accuracy of around 5 tiles.

You can just drop water from your inventory onto the ground then pick it up an unlimited number of times.

Are you honestly suggesting he drink water in lieu of carrying around a dead bird to squeeze unlimited blood out of?

Corpses provide a near-infinite source of blood (I've never seen one dry up) but back on topic.

Go close and use your melee skills on the enemy (No other way). When Stealthed, your speed is slowed, a prone enemy is very much less likely to be hit by a ranged opponent. This also goes for stealthed adventurers, the hit rate is lower when stealthed against prone opponents.

However, your skill in that weapon would greatly help in hitting the target (Archery also helps). The distance from you and your target would also affect hit rate.
