Here's a project: Who has a larger chance of survival when sprayed with magma? A fat dorf or a thin dorf?

Been testing fat removal techniques involving magma, a brief exposure to 1/7 magma is enough to set Dwarfs on fire now, and of you do it right, you can burn off the Dwarf's fat with only minor serious bleeding. All the wounds heal up too ^-^

Read the wiki or lurk on the forums, try to identify concepts that are unknown or "myths" that get perpetuated without actual proof, and then test them.

Despite the !!meme!!, dwarf science doesn't really have to involve fire or magma. The two critical components are:

a) Actual, repeatable, testable results - not just hearsay.
b) Humor/comedy

The humor content often (but not always!) consists of the creation of intricate methods to inflict suffering on the creatures in the game (dwarf or otherwise).

Testing ideas:
-Some people think crossbows & bows became more dangerous/powerful in 34.xx
-Can you breed creatures that have gizzard stones (i.e. cave crocodiles, who lay 20-60 eggs!) for gem production?
-Since 34.05, dwarves don't get bad thoughts about family/friends dying unless the body is found. Can you exploit this somehow?
-Turn on FPS recording and attempt to determine sources of lag

If you want to do a ton of science yet unknown then I would like you to test science in my mod. I always look for detailed feedback to help balancing. :)
