That's not very honorable to the bunnies, unless they're carnivirous.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

I actively take care of my dwarves and animals and ensure they live long, happy lives, and preserve families whenever possible. They get proper burials whenever possible.

I don't slaughter caravans and only steal from them if I absolutely must have something to survive by or they're being entirely unreasonable (elves, occasionally.) I even let them out through the caverns whenever possible, and try to provide escorts for them when entering.

Invaders, though, are treated like crap and left at the bottom of my dodge-pit trap, usually. Sometimes I let them go free after being caged, and don't pursue sieging forces in retreat.

Sounds about like me.  I go through pretty elaborate measures to care for my populace.  They're all happy, spitting out babies and generally life is good in my forts.  Every family gets a nice room.  I always do what I can to keep my military in one piece, and even the civilians are very safe with a curtain wall, and an enclosed pier for fishing where the nasties can't get to them.  If someone is unfortunate enough to die, they're promptly buried, and the military have tombs predesignated for their squads.

I've never stolen from a caravan, always give them fair trade, and I do everything I can to protect them on their way in and out of the fort.

I even do everything I can to keep nobles happy.

Invaders can go die in a fire though.  You come mess with my peeps, and you get what's coming to you.  Sometimes I even send out the crossbows to deal with wounded but retreating enemies.  Maybe that's mercy, or maybe that's murder.  But you don't come with plans of sacking my fort and get away with it lightly.

Forgotten beasts have their own little special trap in the caverns to kill them, rather than risk my military on them.

It's a boring life, but at least everyone is happy.  And when tragedy does strike, it hits home for real.

I once built a wonderful paradise for my dwarves. Or at least the first 3 migrant waves. Any future waves where enslaved to grow food, brew beer, and fish. They go totally un-managed and the 30 or so dwarves living in lower city have no contact what so ever with them. The reason the priviledged ones are below the others is that its easier to get food to them. The fort died out after massive rioting from miasma in the upper city caused a slave dwarf to fall down the food chute, creating more miasma and making the "happy" citizens riot as well.

I treat all visitors and nobles with respect, and always allow at least 1/4 of the military to have time off from training instead of forcing the entire squad to train 24/7. They are also not subjected to danger rooms, but that's mostly because of an incident the first time I tried one...

Did it involve spikes instead of spears? I once massacared my entire army of 15 Master Axe-dwarves like that.

Traps are boring. I use only cage traps for snatchers. Otherwise military kills enemies.
For prisoners, like caged goblins, I have The Arena. I put them there in their weapons, and then put some animals/dwarven criminal-gladiators against them. If they win, I let them escape.

Also, I don't chase down kobolds.

I try keep everyone happy. It has saved me many times from tantrums.

And, what comes to adventure mod, I try keep my companions alive. Or I try keep them alive if they survive from first battle with me.

In my evil glacier biome, I take extra care of caravans and diplomats. They get an escort and a group shower.

A dwarf that has served the fortress his or her whole life and died valiantly is rewarded posthumously with a celebration in his or her honour.

I...

Give my dorfs inadequate living space
Care little for their diets
Don't build hospitals nearly a fraction as well as I could
Put them into situations where they very well may die intentionally
Actively murder children and pets
Steal and kill from elves, and I trade peacefully with the humans until their diplomat arrives, which is when I turn and kill them
Royally destroy the landscape
Give little mind to vampires
Openly leave my enemies to rot outside
Throw prisoners in a hole in the ground to splatter at the bottom, into a cavern until I breach HFS, once I do that I plan to make a pit to toss em in
Just let my hunters kill whatever
Watch with glee if I get a fell mood
Am working on a death fortress, nearly complete save for the lava moat, which still needs the pumpstack to move it from magma sea to moat
Treat my Duke excessively well, luxurious everything, but leave the normal dorfs to suffer in misery.

However, I don't savescum.

I do everything I can to prevent the death of even a single dwarf.

I never seize goods in a glitchy way. If the fort is desperate I might rob from the elves, but not normally - I like them bringing animals.

Every dwarf gets a golden sarcophagus in his honor. The sad part is that 5/6 of those deaths are from vampires. I'm getting swarmed by the things.

And rooms. Nice rooms. Smooth 4x4 rooms. Not those cramped holes in the ground most people call rooms.

And my vampires? I don't summon them to death in the military or shove them into a rock hole somewhere. They get honorary positions in golden viewing rooms opposite the viewing deck for my gladiator pit.

I never butcher cats, regardless of the population explosion or the hunger of my dwarves.

I make every attempt to ensure the safety of caravans and diplomats; they are honored guests in our lands. However, if the elves piss me off I may take their stuff.

An inordinate amount of time is spent honoring the dead... burial chambers are ornately decorated and remains interred as rapidly as possible. Soldiers, in view of their sacrifice for the greater good, are buried in a separate, even more ornately decorated chamber, and heroes, champions, or any trooper who has gone above and beyond the call of duty gets an individual tomb and statue to proclaim his glories into the afterlife.

Apart from that, not too much honor in evidence in my forts. Invaders are due the most gruesome deaths I can possibly arrange. I feel a little bad for some of the giants and beasts, they just seem a little lonely sometimes. But goblins and trolls have caused me such trouble and have proven so formidable for my limited military that whenever we do get the upper hand, it's with absolute glee and as much severing of limbs and spilling of entrails as can be arranged.

I build vast graveyards underground, where every dwarf gets a buried coffin with a slab over it.

Like this:

Code: [Select]
[+][+][S][+]     [S] = slab
[ ][P][▲][ ]     [P] = coffin

what the hell is wrong with you people?

You're all joking, right?

I have a megabeast cage stockpile until I get around to making a zoo for them.
I use cage traps so I have prisoners to torture even after my military is up and running.
Sometimes I leave enemies their armor so they survive torture longer.
I kill enemies with axedwarves, endless peppering with missiles, by stripping them and mobbing them with dogs, by dropping them off towers, into pits, off ledges.  I also drown them.
Coffins are relegated to mining tunnels for years before I build a mausoleum (then I do cool stuff for cool dead dwarves)
Severed enemy limbs are allowed to rot to make +goblin bone+ crafts.
I will steal from elves if they refuse to trade, and occasionally trap them until they berserk and use them for marksdwarf practice.
Mom's with babies are allowed to continue serving in the active military, as they're even better protected than their male compatriots.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.
